New York City Attractions

Welcome to New York City!

If you're spending some time in NYC before or after the contest, we hope you make the most of your trip and visit some of NYC's best spots. There are tons attractions, restaurants, and shops to visit, so pick wisely.

For a good starting point, on what to see when you're here, you should check out the official NYC tourism website: This is New York City.

Below is a list of a few of the more popular things you might want to visit while you're in town.

The Shark

The Shark is a boat ride that speeds along the Downtown coast of Manhattan. The Shark is easy to get to, as it's on the same pier as the International Yo-Yo Open (Pier 17, South Street Seaport).

Statue of Liberty & Ellis Island

Another fun activity we suggest is going to see the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island. Ellis Island was the landing point for many immigrants coming into the United States. Today, it has a museum that shows the long and tedious wait that immigrants had to endure to get into New York.

The Statue of Liberty was a monument given to the United States by France as a symbol of friendship in 1886.

Both places are accessible by ferry. The ferries are found in Battery Park and can be easily reached by taking the 4 or 5 subway lines to Bowling Green Station.

New York City Bus Tour

If you are new to New York City, try to take a bus tour of Manhattan. The tour takes you to popular and historical places in New York while the tour guide narrates and answers your questions. Note that New York City is best known for many of it's Downtown sites.

The Grayline busses are found in downtown Manhattan at Bowling Green and can be easily accessible by taking the 4 or 5 Subway trains.

American Museum of Natural History

Also check out the American Museum of Natural History, right off of Central Park! The American Museum of Natural History focuses on interesting and historical topics, cultures, and more.

Empire State Building

New York City is known best for it's large buildings. So why give up the chance to go on top the biggest and largest Building in Manhattan? That's right, I'm talking about the Empire State Building.

Times Square

You thought you have seen a lot of lights? Well think again if you haven't been to Times Square!

Times Square is one of New York's biggest hits, and one of its best-known Landmarks. You can get to Times Square easily by taking the 1, 2, 3, 7, A, C, E, N, Q, R, S, and W lines.

Central Park

Central Park is a wonderful park situated right in the middle of Manhattan. It's right next to many of the city's largest museums and has a fantastic petting zoo.

Transportation is once again easy, you can take the 1, A, B, C, D, F, N, Q, R, and W subway lines.

Museum of Modern Art

Another activity we suggest is to go and see the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA). The museum's name pretty much speaks for itself with a strong focus's on new and upcoming art.

SoHo

SoHo is a fun and interesting scene best known for it's shopping and food.

SoHo is short for South of Houston. Houston is a street that stretches across manhattan from the lower west side to the lower east. You can get to Soho by most subway lines.

Union Square

Union Square is a great scene for relaxing, shopping, or grabbing some food. Stores like Virgin Megastores (music) border the park and you can even catch a movie at Regal Cinemas. This is a great place to spend a few hours, whether it's seeing a movie or shopping for music, clothes, electronics and more.
