Yup. Next year hitting 40. Have not thrown a yoyo since I was like 10. Saw a few vids of a 2010 Championship and I had to go for another one. I got my Velocity and a 10 pack of poly string a few days ago to start getting back into it. I suck. Binding is a new concept to me. So right now just working on binding and the side throw before I try anything else. First day really practicing and I am doing ok. It is just not as easy as the guys in the videos make it look lol.

Welcome back to the world of yoyoing! We've missed you. As a over 40 yoyoer all I can say is hang in there and keep practicing... it gets easier and starts making more sense. Soon you'll be the one making the videos.

Welcome to the yoyo community! You'll find a ton of extremely helpful people and another ton of extremely helpful people here.
Definitely don't be discouraged! Yoyoing is hard! Its going to take a very long time to get as good as the guys you're seeing in those videos, but you can absolutely do it. Just don't push yourself too hard too soon.
If you have any questions about anything, ask away! There are all sorts of different sections on YoYoNation for asking different types of questions, but they all hold a common theme. Your question will almost ALWAYS be answered by someone who really cares and wants to see you succeed.
Good luck and have fun!

You can silicone any YoYoJam with O-Ring response. Lyn Fury will turn unresponsive on its own fairly quick, though, due to the larger gap size than most plastic YYJ stuff. I'd recommend picking up a pair of Kicksides.

Just wait until you look back at this a year from now. Metal yoyos are exactly like bikes/cars/books/models/sports equipment/ect... Once you have a few, you can't just have a few. Once you have too many, you just need more. The thing is, they keep their value EXTREMELY well, so you can always turn around and sell them off on the B/S/T for almost exactly what you payed.

Actaully, any yoyo below 100$ doesn't keep their value all that well unless they are really hard to find ones. Like a battosai.

The Battosai isn't very hard to find. There are many of them in the B/S/T right now. Metal yoyos hold their value very well, but YYF's metal yoyos generally don't. Other than YYF's yoyos, I can't think of a single high-quality metal yoyo released within the past 3 or 4 years that has had a serious depreciation in value. Look at Anti-Yo as an example. There are about 400 of each of their major releases and they're several years old. They still sell for retail or above if they're in good condition. The same rule apples for the Project, Project 2, Peak (not 1st run, of course), BvM, 80% of SPYY's yoyos, and 80% of everything else out there. Compared to other collectibles, metal yoyos hold their value very well. Even metal yoyos that retailed for under $100 still fetch roughly retail when they're sold on the B/S/T. Look at the M1. I saw an M1 sell for $70 a few days ago. It was mint in the box, just like it was when it came out, but the price went up. Metal yoyos hold their value very well.

Just started stop and goes. Watched the YT expert village vids. Thats not too hard to do. Just about ten tries for tonight. Timing the catch is weird but I need to work more on the pull for the spin. Tomorrow is a new day.

That catch is very awkward to time. Its a great move to learn, though, because it has a lot of applications in more advanced tricks.
It sounds like you're making good progress! Definitely just keep at it. It'll take a long, long time, but you'll be doing things the average person can't even comprehend before you know it.

Yea, getting somewhere. Think I am going to try the drop in the bucket too tomorrow. That should be enough of a list to keep practicing for a bit. Binding, Side throw to trapeze?, Stop and go and Drop in the bucket.
I like the looks of the string weaving look tricks so there is my direction.

That sounds like a good plan. Following the tutorials done by Andre Boulay (expertvillage) on YouTube in order is a great way to learn all the basics. It'll take at least 5 months or so to get them all down (it took me a lot longer), but it'll be worth it to get a nice handle on all the basic elements you'll need to create your own tricks and eventually be able to come up with some freestyles. Don't hesitate to learn other tricks in between, but knowing everything Andre has on YouTube is a wonderful asset to have.

Thanks for the welcomes. Only threw for a little bit so far today. Changed strings on the velocity and my wifes butterfly. I tried to stop and go but I still have the pull problem coming out of it. It does a UFO on me. I also have to be on the right response setting too....lol. Side throws are getting better. When I hit it right I can go to the trapeze without too much problem. Just got to hit the side throw right.
Need to get off my lazy butt and do some work on my websites so maybe latter this evening I can get about an hour to play around. I probably need to clean the bearings too since I did not do that when I got it.

Nice little practice session today. Getting more confident and a little better in my side throw. Catching the trapeze pretty well( can be better though). Trapeze to bind is pretty easy. Binding from sleep getting better on both front and backside. Catching the stop and go is pretty good just pulling to spin is still weak. Tried drop in the bucket but forgot the way to weave the string on the nth. It helps when my 3 yo girl does not want to be my shadow. Can't practice like that. Scared my wife when I threw a sleeper, took the string off my finger and let the yoyo launch up for her to catch.. without telling her...lol. Whats that trick called?

I don't know what that trick is called, but I've gotten similar reactions from my girlfriend...
Sounds like you're making good progress! Keep it up!
The tricks you're working on right now should keep you occupied for a few weeks. Definitely take your time and don't take on too much at once. You're making great progress!
