Dings
« on: June 16, 2011, 01:06:10 PM » |

I dinged my new code 1 on the sidewalk, it just slipped off the string when I was adjusting tension. Is there anything that can be done about these? Its kind of a deep gash, fortunately it was only a few inches off the ground. Still. Any suggestions?

Haha. That happened to me when I was trying to have my wife take a picture of me doing the "Washing Machine" technique the other day. She took to long....next thing I know my minty Snowdusted (Powdercoat) Raptor I just got from Arthur (KingSpin) is plummeting from 20 feet off my deck to the concrete. To my surprise. No damage whatsoever. Not the tiniest blemish. Powdercoat is amazing.
Get your CODE1 powdercoated.
In all seriousness. You can lightly sand the ding smooth.
Consider it a love mark. Yoyo's get dinged.

Thanks man. I started off trying to heat it up and smooth it back into shape via friction from an old pair of jeans like old people do with razor blades. I might just get some really fine sand paper and do it up.
Good advice. Thanks man.

Yes some 400-600 grit will smooth the ding out, be careful to sand in a small area.

I use a metal file on my Leatherman. Just grind it smooth, and enjoy the scars.

It really is amazing dude. I was so bummed out when on my way downstairs through my house to get outside below the deck. I was livid. I really do love that Raptor. I never expected it to look or play so well. Capless it's amazing. I used the caps you sent me in my FHZ. The Raptor even bounced off the Central heating / cooling unit and onto the asphalt. I picked it up and desperately searched for the monstrous dings or chips I was sure would be there. Nothing. Smooth as it ever was. I apologize for getting off topic.

Personally, I like the dings on my yoyos, they add character and reassure me that they're getting their money's worth of play.

Be glad knowing your hobby is fairly inexpensive. It doesn't take too long to save enough to buy another $100-200 yoyo. Once I dinged the crown on a brand new Omega watch...I was pissed for days.

I really like that, I think I'll make it my sig. This doesn't make any sense to me at all, the only way to ding a yoyo buy "reaching for the stars" is by throwing your 4a throw really high and missing the catch. Other than that all you did was leave your string too long or drop it (or I suppose doing a really long washing machine will do the job too), and that just doesn't spell "badge of honor" to me. A dinged yoyo isn't worth crying over or bragging about. Sand/file it down so you don't cut yourself and continue your day.

Lol. "Reaching for the stars" is just a metaphor implying the thrower is giving it his all, doing the best he can, achieving the unachievable. I don't think it was meant to be taken literally.

Oh really, is that what he meant? I thought he was saying that he stands with his arms stretched out towards the heavens every night and occasionally his yoyo will fall out of his pocket and gets dinged. Thanks for clearing things up!. My point was that there aren't any tricks that will make you more likely to hit the ground unless you are playing 4/5a (the throwing the yoyo really high bit was a joke) or using a string that's too long.

So you're saying that there's no way that anyone on God's green Earth should ding their yo-yo if they're yo-yoing "right"? That's what I'm getting.

What I'm saying is that there are no tricks that increase your odds of dings. If you play with an old worn out string, it will break and you will ding your yoyo, if you play in a confined space you might hit a wall and ding your yoyo, but if you observe a few simple rules then no, you cant attribute that ding to "going big". You are just as likely to hit the ground doing braintwister as you are going doing some fancy laceration into spirit bomb into suicide into whatever combo. Also Gunstar, sorry about that, I've been in an airport all day and it's made me a bit combative. I meant no offense.
