I found an old topic on fingerboards and was suprised to find out that there were boards that cost more than regular skateboards! What's the difference between the high dollar fingerboards and the Tech-Decks?

I find it a kinda funny that it looks like no one has read the original post, everyone read the subject then threw a random coment about tech decks... that being said, I have no idea what would make a fine fingerboard different than a run of the mill Tech-Deck, and probably never should have posted in this thread.

the expensive ones are hand made from wood and have parts that are meant to move, like ball bearings in the tiny wheels

woah crazy.. haha I was thinking there was a post about fingerboards the other day. I was also thinking about selling one! haha! The big difference is the parts in general. Wood decks are far superior to the techdecks. Yes tech deck has a wood deck, but it's nothing compared to a real fingerboard. Real good quality ones are a bit wider and have a much more contoured and concaved shape than a tech deck. They have tons more pop, they use real wood plys and are molded after a real skateboard - just scaled down. Some of the popular brands would be, berlinwood, pro wood, yellowood, flatface, etc. http://flatfacefingerboards.com/webstore/categories/Decks/The decks are also a lot more durable and flex a lot less than the plastic tech decks. These will last a heck of a lot longer than a techdeck. The higher end trucks have better bushings, locking nuts, removable kingpins and axles, straighter than techdeck, they also include pivot cups at the base of the truck as well. They are usually made out a higher end alloy as well, so they are much stronger and straighter. Just like real trucks. The wheels are also much better made than techdeck, there's a wide range of materials that are used as well. There's urathane wheels, poly carb wheels, rubber wheels, etc. The wheels usually tend to have a better and more accurate molding and shape so they are more like real skateboard wheels. Techdeck wheels usually have seams on them and or some flashing left over from the molding and manufacturing process. Higher end wheels do not exhibit any of those issues, so they are much smoother and roll much better. There's also bearing wheels - the bearing wheels either have 1 or 2 bearings per wheel depending on the brand. I currently have single bearing wheels and they are 1000 times better than the tech deck brands. Griptape is also much nicer than the tech deck brand too. You can check out flatface to see the different wheels, trucks, decks, etc. http://flatfacefingerboards.com/webstore/For those that are curious in the setup below. Deck: Prowood Pro-series natural - classic shape. Wheels: Flatface G4A single bearing wheels. Modified and shaved techdeck trucks. Pro-tape griptape. ------- ------- ------- ------- -------
