B/S/T Has taken a turn for the worse the past one to two years. I think on these internet forums (and for kids at contests) the sport has become trading/buying and bragging about cool, rare yoyos than actually playing.
All I see is VNYYC and CLYW in the B/S/T. It seems a step away from scalping to me. Everyone just trading and selling their "mint" yoyos for other rare yoyos.
Frustrating, all right.
i dont exactly get what you are trying to say here. I agree with YOAaron. My short experience with the bst has been - for the most part - really great. I very rarely have a mint yoyo to trade, and have rarely traded for completely mint yo-yos. Sure, there are collectors out there, but I've had no problem finding people just like me, who like to play their yo-yos, to trade with.

If it's rare and in high demand you should always try to profit from it. Collectors understand that. People that are lucky enough to get the rare throws have to know drop dates and have money ready and still be lucky enough to get one before they sell out. So why would I trade it for plastics or metals that are a dime a dozen or sell it for less than I paid for it plus shipping. You can call it scalping but I just call it business. Some bigger companies have their yoyos made overseas for extremely cheap prices and charge a huge mark up. Is that scalping too? That's business too. But don't try to trade me those yoyos. Haha.

I am kinda with yoyo8821, if you land a rare throw, being a player or collector, and you just dont like it....well simply dont set a price on it and see where it goes. You were fortunate or patient enough to land that throw one way or another, who doesnt want extra money in their pocket? I can understand where there would be limits, like say $200 for a $100 throw, but that is not your problem....the one offering should think about what that throw means to them and what price they are willing to pay.
It could be considered scalping if you are buying out entire runs, that is really a ---- move, but if you acquire one maybe even two to sell one off...doesnt seem so horrible to me. Maybe in purchasing two you meant to play one and collect the other. To people who buy out 4 or 5 throws to resale, have some respect for what the manufactures are trying to put out at the price point they set, it seems a bit disrespectful to buy out 10 throws and then have people come to you to pay a markup since you bought them out. That to me ruins the whole point of the smaller companies putting out a fair priced product when you decide to inflate the price.
Lastly, people need to understand that you may have paid $100 for your throw, maybe even more, but that does not mean that throw is going to be valued in the bst at that price. Like stated earlier some throws are dime a dozen and honestly have no resale value in the bst because of it. Be aware of what you have and what you are trying to trade up to/for. so you dont get offended when someone refuses your offer. Most of the people positing up their bst's and who have an interest in the hobby know what their throws are worth, so once again dont be offended if they refuse your offer, it may be an amazing offer but that doesnt mean it is what they are looking for or carry the same trading or resale value they are looking for.

Good points Leo87. I really think nobody has actually made a overall profit off the forum. Maybe a profit here and there on one or two yoyos but overall I have lost money selling other throws for much less than I bought them for. It's never about the money. It's about trying different throws and keeping the ones that appeal to you.

The scalping you guys are talking about is NOTHING like it was about a few years ago. At that time there was one maybe two good metal yoyos coming out a month. The popular and pretty ones value could double as soon as it would sell out. Its not hard to buy the metal yoyos that you want for retail IMO anymore.

Sadly I have only been around here going on a year, so I really cant say how bad the scalping was, but I know the amount of throws that are coming out and the number of throws in the runs the manufactures are making should be enough for most people to get a throw they want....but there are people that will buy multiples of very limited versions of certain throws and it just seems wrong to me. It is one thing if you buy two again just to collect...but in a run of 15 if you buy five of them....really? Yeah you have the money, yeah you can do it....but why take that away from someone that wants to try the throw out. I am fortunate enough on most occasions due to school and work to be around for drops, have the money to buy out whole runs...but out of respect for people and manufactures getting their products out, I see no point in it. You never know it could have made some ones entire year to have that one throw or maybe its a gift for someone who is not waiting for themselves but for someone they care about and want to give them something special.

if i'm interested in a throw, and i get it, and i dont like it, i dont really see a problem in trading/selling it for a small profit if that's what its worth to the other person. when i got my WMM and i didn't like it (different discussion for a different thread) i traded it for a MIB TE Sas and 10 bucks. 10 bucks profit, and he got a yoyo which he really liked. everyone lived happily ever after

Okay. This thread has successfully been derailed. I'm going to lock it as I don't want people that may not be accountants to start offering tax advice. If the OP feels that it should be reopened for any reason please send me a PM. Edit - The OP has asked this to be reopened. I've deleted many, many posts regarding income tax implications. Please stay on topic.

Another gripe, leave feedback!!! I shouldn't have to ask for it!!!! my last 2 PURCHASES from the BST I have had to ask for feed back. I DON'T GET IT!!!!!! 1. I paid when I said I would. 2. I either emailed or PMed them that I paid right after I paid, so they had 3 different types of notifications that they were paid. I fullfilled my side of the deal, at the very least leave me feed back even if you were going to rip me off.

I really want your yoyo. Let me offer you this great deal for it. So great that you immediately cancel all current negotiations for it. It's a pretty great deal, because I really want your yoyo.
Oh, just kidding, changed my mind. You didn't think anyone would seriously want that piece of junk, did you? Sucker.

Another Gripe I just thought of Getting used string or no string in a trade. Whats up with that? I hate when I trade/buy a yoyo with a used string. Seriously? you couldnt throw a new string on the yoyo before you shipped it? When I trade I always put a new string on the yoyo and most of the time throw in a couple extra. They dont cost that much.

when i trade i give 1 or 2 unused strings. i just dont see why everybody has to give one another 10 strings in a trade.when i said im trading my yoyo for yours, i meant i'm gonna ship my yoyo and you are gonna ship your yoyo. what do i have to trade strings for? it's preferable to throw in a string, but it's just unnecessary to give any more than that.

A lot of the times I find that since people have such varying string preferences I choose to omit the string for fear of the recipient ultimately throwing them away. The used string though I totally feel you on.

My gripe is when people treat the BST like ebay instead of posting prices. This is not an auction forum. Post how much you would want for it (that means how much you would let it go for) instead of saying "I really don't want to let this one go, it's near and dear to my heart, it'll take A LOT to get it from me, but offer up!" NO that's not how it works. If you want to auction it, auction it on EBAY. If you sell it here, post a price!

I personally like the people that clearly state OFFER next to their listings....and when you do put something towards their throw they laugh, gawk, or take offense to your offer. I am soooo sorry my offer was so horrible, not up to your current offer, or not even close to what you were looking for, guess next time you should mention what you want clearly, because offer to me means I am going to make the decision on what I can give for your throw. The worth I give your throw may not even be retail now and days since the cash in the bst is dead...so if you were looking for that 200 for an essence or 150 for a wooly markmont...well you should probably list it so I dont even bother making an offer by ways of the current market...not your personal value of the object in question.
