888 Bearing
« on: February 21, 2011, 10:28:13 PM »

The other day, I lubed my 888x's bearing. So I took off the shields, then i lubed it. Then, when I put the shield on, the clip flew somewhere and I couldn't find it. So I just left the bearing without the shields. Then I broke in the bearing, and then after awhile of play, the yoyo became really noisy.
So I lubed it again, then the same thing happens. And then I lubed it one more time, but I haven't break it in because I'm going to school soon. If the same thing happens again what should I do?

I clean my bearing every time b4 I lube it.... bc the old lube is stil there... and 1 thing I di o is I never take the shield off... the lube will go between the crack just give it 10 seconds to seep in b4 u spinn it then put ur stribg on and give it a few good sleepers and just let it spinn out

Taking shields off makes no difference. It may even get rid of minor vibe, which is sometimes caused by the movement of bearing shields.

What you need to do is learn how to clean your bearing.
Maintenance is far more important than just lubing it.

I take off the shields, you know, to get the rocks out from between the balls...Tetra is probably right that the shields don't make much difference, but I've had enough slightly warped shields that can create unnecessary resistance for the bearing. I just get rid of them.

Always clean the bearing in whatever solution you prefer (paint thinner, acetone, lighter fluid, etc.) before you reapply any lubrication. I wouldn't recommend cleaning them too much though. Just play it out, the bearing is always going to make some noise.

This should be played at high volume, preferably in a residential area.
