I suggest canceling now.  The reality is that ignoring charity, the market value of the yo-yo isn't higher than $1000.  Anyone bidding $3000 on the yo-yo for charity reasons is better off donating directly to a non-profit so they receive a $1000 check in the mail in April for taking the tax write off.  If you wanted to give the most money to cancer research, this is how you'd do it.  The person who wins this yo-yo won't be able to claim it as a tax write off.  It's not structured as a non-profit.  Both bidders have zero feedback.  There's no reason to think the bids are credible.

I've done lots of ebaying. Flyguy is spot on. Those aren't real bids.

I'd cancel the bids and ban those two zero feedback bidders. The help button on ebay is pretty easy to use and will show you how to do both.

Based on what I've seen from the bid history, I think that at least one of the users involved in that $3000 bidding war has bids on other items as well.  You may want to look into the other auctions as well since it would be bad if that person won and didn't pay.

Wow... Why cant there be no problems atleast one time... tickedoff

I dont know a lot about eBay but you only ship out when they payed so you wont get scammed, right? Or do you guys think the bidder is malicious and wont pay so Heath has more work to do?

The way I see it there are two possibilities:  Either the bidder is just doing what he's doing for giggles (to be a jerk), or is jacking up the prices so nobody else bids by using two accounts and then cancelling his bids at the last minute in order to get the item at a lower price.

You can't cancel bids within 12 hours of auction end. Might be 24 hours but it's at least 12 hours.

@Heath... cancel the bids and ban the bidders.

That's true, but he might have figured that he'd jack the price up so high that nobody else that was interested would think to check back and then he'd be in the clear for the remaining 12 hrs or the auction.

Regardless, the bids need to be cancelled because they're ruining it for those of use who will actually be able to pay.

alright. is there any way to stop them from just making new accounts and doing it again?

i cant keep 0 feedback bidders from bidding according to the settings on the editing sheet (unless im missing something)

2 accounts have now been banned and their bids deleted. i now know how to do that (thanks to you guys and ebay), so it should be smooth sailing from here on out. as it currently stands the event has raised more than 1750$ and isnt close to over  Smiley

You may be able to pre-approve all bidders for the auction, but that's probably not advisable...  I think we should just wait and see what happens.  You might be able to have eBay investigate and ban the IP address...

I did an auction the other day and could swear there was an option to only allow bidders with x amount of positive feedback.. it was an option hidden somewhere when I was setting it up.

It's probably only an option when first making the auction and can't be added retroactively.

Kyle

that option goes into negative feedback, but 0 is neutral, thus not covered.
