Is it true that you when doing 2A, you have to change strings very often, or is it just me? Using yyn green highlights and sunset trajectories. In 1A, I play with the same string sometimes for weeks. Sure, it looses its brightness, but I can't feel any serious performance losses for a long time. In 2A though, it seems like I would have to change every 30 to 60 minutes! (have never played that long continiously, so it's just a guess) I feel it especially with tangler. On fresh strings, 6 tangler revolutions with tight returns are a breeze. After a few days of 10-15 minute sessions though, I have serious problems with just doing 1(!) tangler revolution and getting it back to hand. Loops are also a little bit loose, but it's more of an issue with sleeper tricks.
any advice from experienced 2A players ?

I did 2A for a short while a looong time ago using raiders. I remember the strings would get looser or righter depending on which way I was looping. Also I think the strings break alot faster when doing looping tricks because you're constantly jerking the yo yo out. But thats just from my own personal experience. This was also back when there was only cotton strings, which didn't last long in any situation.

yes, depending on the way the string is wound and the side of the hand you are looping the string gets looser or tighter. (usually on right hand inside loops it gets loose and with right hand inside planet hops it gets tighter) It is a valid point to bring up, but does not play a big role in this context as far is I can evaluate. I haven't had any string break on me so far with 100% poly. Although in my beginning 2A I used the same strings for months. Only for looping/hoping and 1-2 AtWs so the sleeping issue is kind of new to me.
(Even when I was using 100%cotton for 1A breaking was seldom the case, but I never threw really hard or used it in starburst yoyos)

I can go through strings on my Sunsets in about two hours of solid looping. Looping puts a lot of stress on your strings and they need to be changed. It happens; get used to it. One other thing worth mentioning is string tension. Looping will play havoc with the tension of your strings and that can really affect the responsiveness of the yo-yo.

You WILL need to change your string. Super often. Especially with highlights. I've had highlights melt after a good few minutes of very quick loops.

I have all-cotton strings (see Cones2Balls website <-) break on me after two hours of play with ball-bearing yo-yos, and 45 minutes of play with wood axles. 2A is the style of play that puts the MOST stress on the string and fingers.
It's OK to use strings quickly. I bet if you counted, you get the same number of throws from a 1A string as a 2A string. But looping is consecutive throws, and 1A is throw-tricktricktricktrick-bind-throw.

thanks guys most of you mentioned only looping though. do you have problems with decreasing sleep time in 2A with older strings as well ? I always thought response was a matter of response system/gap width/lubrication/bearing shape/string thickness&material, but never about string age. I assumed stretching string with loops would make it even thinner/smoother for less friction and longer sleepers, while the narrow 2A gaps would always assure a tight wind up. interesting point about getting the same # of throws from string in 1A & 2A, might start counting

Well, from my experiences sleep time increases with use of slick 6 because the string gets pretty thin, but it also takes away from your looping. It could be your throw, or the amount of lube you're using.
