Am I going crazy?
« on: May 18, 2012, 08:30:12 AM »

I recently bought 2 packs of thick Kity string, a yellow neon and a blue pack. The blue strings play significantly different then the yellow one (and not just 1 string in comparison to another). Is this possible or am i going mad?

I heard that yellow string does play differently, but you'll have to be more specific.

Well, once both are broken in, yellow seems to hold tension a little bit better and feels a bit more thicker. Hope it makes sense Cheesy

You aren't going crazy.  I experienced the same phenomenon with Ham String.  All the neon yellow 100% poly played and felt different than any other color I tried.  It was very odd indeed.

Not sure what it is...the YYSL Type X I've been rockin' doesn't seem to have that discrepancy.

For every deal that happens, there's 20 behind it that fall through.
It's probably some aluminum/unicorn horn alloy.

It occurs with regular highlights, too.
Yellow vs. green or pink or whatever.

Yellow has always played better, no matter what brand, IMO.

Different colors have different dye material, thus creating different thickness and feeling. Some colors like red are usually sharper, yellow are softer...

Definitely noticed this myself as well with all brands of 100% poly string I've played. I pretty much only play with florescent yellow because of visibility and I like the way it plays. There have been other colors that I liked the way they play, but almost exclusively play over dark bamboo flooring so I prefer to see the string as best I can.

Dye does indeed affect play

this is why I really start to like white strings, they have that "pure" sensation to them

but I also like green or pink, yellow is too soft for me.
