It plays great otherwise, but every few throws the string in my Renegade slips off the bearing, and gets stuck between the spacer and the outer race.
It's a real pain in the ----. Trying different string didn't work. What can I do?

Besides the ladies love it because it shoots sparks and refers to their genitalia.

One of the spacers / parts may not be seated correctly. Try completely disassembling and reassembling, see if that helps.

Because they're awesome. This. And I've tried this. I've tried different string, different tightening, taking out the bearing, everything.

Then you might want to try sanding the plastic down where the spacer sits, to make it a little deeper. Good luck.

Gades are famous for string slippage problems. The Renegades with the regular flat sided nut/bolt was especially prone to string slippage. The later Gades with the star shaped nut/ bolt was supposedly re-designed to solve this problem but . . . I don't really think so. Romano911's idea is good but it'll make the gap a bit smaller. It might be easier to sand the spacer down than to try to increase the depth of the spacer seat. I've modded Gades to accept FHZ spacers and bearings but it's been a while. I'm gonna go dig out an old Renegade, stare at the guts, and get back to you.
And yeah . . . don't listen to the haters. Renegades are cool. Just needs a little extra TLC.

Okay - Dug out my new style Renegade ( star hub ) and this is what I've found. Bear with me here. The Gade is designed to take the old small size YYJ bearing. This means the inner race is 1/4 " dia. and the outer dia. is 3/8". This also means that if you did a precise job of modding, it wouldn't be too difficult to mod a Gade to accept a C size bearing. Without the mod, the larger bearing will rub on the plastic and not spin properly. I also tried installing a Duncan spacer and it fits diameter wise ! Again - you would have to make the spacer seat deeper or sand a skinny Duncan spacer or FAST 201 spacer down in order for it to sit below the surface of the plastic. Because the Duncan spacer fits means that the diameter of the depression in the plastic where the spacer sits, is slightly larger than the 3/8" inch that it should be. It's about 10 mm. ( The size of a Duncan spacer and bearing. ) This is prolly why players complain about slippage problems with 'Gades. 3/8" ( what the diameter of the depression should be ) =. 375" = 9.525 mm which is less than 10 mm. Conversely - you've got a 3/8" bearing running in a larger 10mm diameter hole. This is obviously enough room for the string to slip between the spacer and bearing. So - In conclusion . . . without some kind of modding, the sloppy tolerances of the Renegade invariably give the string the possibility of slipping. It does make the Gade a good candidate for modding it to accept a small size YYJ bearing that fits better, a large size C bearing, a Duncan size A bearing or even an H Spin size D bearing. Doesn't solve your problem Alex, but I hope this is understandable and I hope this helps somehow. Send it to a modder.
EDIT : After further investigation and modding contemplations - I've found that the stock Renegade axle is too thick for a Duncan spacer to fit. Although the Duncan spacer fits in the seat, besides having to mod to make the spacer sit deeper, You'd also have to modify the axle set up in order to allow the Duncan spacer to slide on.

There's a chance the spacers are touching each other before they meet the bearing? you could try giveing them a sand...

Threw this together after reading this post. Plays great ! Totally unresponsive with snappy binds. I've got what I think is one Duncan silicone sticker in there now. I've got o-rings and the small Duncan spacers w/ A size bearing in it. Makes it somewhat adjustable.

First off, sorry for the necro.
I have been loving my 1st gen (hex nut) Renegade lately, but the string slippage issue is wearing me out. Does anyone have a fix that has worked for them in the past?
I have been thinking of some clear nail polish around the outsides of the spacer recess, but I wanted to see if anyone had a better fix before I tried that.
Any words of wisdom from someone with experience would help here.
