the best bearing for your bucks.....the One Drop Designs 10 Ball Bearing!!!
« on: March 20, 2010, 12:31:20 AM »

i've been using all sorts of bearings in my yos for the past 10 months, and through trial, error, and money ive finally sifted through MOST bearings and have come to these conclusions

1.) for 8$, the One Drop Designs 10 ball is really the best choice. quality control on these is just sooooo amazing. ive honestly never had a bad one, and they all perform exactly how a good yoyo bearing should. the only other bearing comparable quality wise is nearly double the price, and theyre really nothing alike. trust me, theyre worth every penny and should be the benchmark for all bearings.

2.) the center trac bearings YYF uses are WAY too inconsistent. all 4 of mine died within my first week with them.......this says nothing for the yoyos though (no foul YYF. my beef is with the bearing)

3.) the DifeYo KK is a great bearing, but pretty costly. my 10 balls outlast my KKs in lube and maintenance, and 1 of my 12 KKs has died in these 10 months  Cry, but the KK does aid a bit in sloppy throws and stability ( a LITTLE)

4.) AIGR bearings play pretty on par with 10 ball, but cost a BIT more (preference is key in this, but most cant tell a difference between the 2)

5.) SPEC YYF bearings play pretty good, but ive dented a few of them taking them out of yoyos.....the flat to the end approach helps with play, but makes for a potentially easy to damage bearing

anything not mentioned is still being tested

i really hope no one is offended. these are my personal opinions

What do you think of the SPYY's stock bearing? Ezo or something like that?

are you sure SPYY uses EZOs? if so......the EZOs are nice (probably just as nice actually), but 50% more than a 10 Ball in costs. the 10 ball really holds serious merit for under 10$

My pistolero came with a EZO stock,I'm not sure how long SPYY has been putting EZO's in their yo-yos for.
I agree with you full heartedly though,on everything written.
Thank you for taking the time to write it up.

What about the kmk metric bearings that ILYY uses? I guess they wouldn't really apply as you can't put them in most throws. But I'd still like to know how you feel about them.

metric KMK w/o a shield (or with a removable shield) is an ok bearing. im not sure what contributes to this, but they seem to get dirtier and require more cleaning than any other bearings on the market for some reason. (some of you are thinking  its cause of the unshielded part (doh), but i keep my KKs unshielded too) you can see how a bearing that mysteriously gets dirty super fast with no removable shield could be an issue, right? Luckily Frank and Dom send them unshielded now. they provide smooth as glass play, but require more maintenance more often.

How floaty is the 44?

We measured it on a floaty-o-meter and it scored a 44.

I use small specs because the only alternative is the duncan  and the center track and kk.  Center track seems inconsistent like you said, kk's are quite expensive, and duncans are all right. Spec small ftw.  I really like my large spec as well although I've only had yyjs to compare to.

One thing, does anybody find small bearing really hard to keep working?  Out of the five small specs I've had, one is unusable, two spin well on a finger flick but they have a purr that causes a little vibe, and two are working well.

10balls also tend to not collect dirt when deshielded because the cage covers alot of the balls whereas the balls in a spec are almost fully exposed

10 balls are my favorite flat bearing, but kk's are my favorite bearing. Even on a perfect throw, the string can move around during combos with a flat bearing and cause turning and tilting. My kk's have even outlasted most of my 10 balls. My 4 AIGR's all died. I only had 1 that even performed properly for a week. I have 8 Center Tracs. They're noisy, and fit a little loose on most bearing seats causing vibe in some, but all of mine are still performing well. I don't really like them though.

i see where your going with string centralizing, but turns and tilts are all operator based. friction causes turns and tilts, which come from the string rubbing the inner rim. while centralizing the string does help. your throw, accuracy, and catches all affect tilts and turns WAYYY more than the bearing

I have yet to encounter a yo-yo that a 10-ball did not improve.  Good call, HVizier.
