You could try the Modders or its Maintenance subsection.

Have you tried using one o-ring and one silicone pad? I've also read where people shave the o-rings to make them flush (i.e. not sticking out) with the side.

Binding should not be a problem if you are doing it right.  I would put the stock response system in the 888 and watch some more binding videos.  It's rarely the yoyo that's the problem.  I read something that helped me a while back.  It went something like:

(Front style bind)  Once you are in the the over mount, don't just drop the loop and pray. Lower your throw hand (the hand the string is attached to) and don't release the loop until you feel the sting catch.

Hope that helps.

Insert o-rings. Cut o-rings flush/just above the surface of the inner walls. If they're just above the surface, it'll make binding easier, but cutting them flush let's you do more string tricks. O-rings aren't too expensive, so just play around with it for a while with different set ups and figure out what you like. I personally like one flush and one just above the wall.

Just be careful about cutting the metal. Not good for the yoyo or the blade.

I  put an oring on the chuck of my air drill, sanded it then put it in..

But I think I finally figured out the bind a bit more- it is the snap of your throwing hand when you let go of the wrapped string Smiley much more success Afro

This is that post I saw...

Try this.  From sleep => front mount => Pinch with your non throw hand => pull up with your throw hand smoothly  this should cause the bind.  If it doesn't, try increasing the size of the front mount loop.

You can also get tighter binds if you move your hands out of plane so that the string is slightly angled in the gap. It'll help the response (o-rings, pads, etc) catch until you get the hang of binding on the 888. This trick is also useful if the response pad or silicone in your yoyo decides to fly out and it won't bind normally.

You can also try using a bigger loop for binding the 888. Every yoyo responds a little differently.

I wouldn't bother with shaving down the o-rings in your 888 flush quite yet. That's a modification done to make the yoyo harder to bind.

Sorry man, but I think you're way over your head here. The 888x is not for beginners. And you also ordered a dark magic. If you keep saying... hey I need a new yoyo, I'm not ready for this one, you'll end up with 10 already. Stick with the Dragonfly for beginner tricks. Dark magic for intermediate. And save your 888x when you can bind 100% and do some nice tricks. Not the yoyo that makes you good but the player. Plus I'm not hating on you man. Happy throwing.

Well, I think you should just keep playing with whatever yoyo. Eventually binding will be second nature. It's not like it matters if you can't bind all of the time. It is a toy... so I think you're supposed to have fun. You don't need to follow a specific path. It's doesn't matter how you get there, or if you get there. Yoyoing is fun.

I have been going back and forth between them all, however I prefer my 888 at this point and am able to bind 80% or more at this point. I also took out the o'ring I made on one side and put the silicone back. I like how smooth it spins.
It turns out my DM- one side has a defect. (I just contacted YYN about it) the plastic edge where the metal starts is straight and even on one side and not on the other causing a slight vibe and or wobble. I really like the smooth 888 and have been having more fun with this.

What other yoyo would compare to the 888 without stacks? I really like the all metal ones. Is there one that is sort of in between the 888 and DM as far as size goes?

I think the Boss is a stackless sort of 888 with better rim weight.  You might want to go a little bigger since you have the 50mm diameter bracket covered with the 888.  Look around for a 53ish mm maybe?

yeah I was peeking around and was sort of thinking the same thing. Not sure what shape would feel best.
Going to try and check out Paul Han today in Cupertino. I am sure he will have a few I could see for myself.
