im thinking maybe there should be a sticky thread on bearing maintenance and troubleshooting??? my current issue: i clean my bearings (zippo) and then add pinhead of yyj thin lube. it plays well for a while... stays nicely non-responsive and then after a couple of weeks it starts to become randomly responsive again... only thoughts could be maybe i need to recess the flowable silicone further (i put it flush)... but then i would have thought the issue would be present immediately... or maybe its because at the moment the weather has been warm and we have ha dthe evaporative aircon going... so it is quite humid inside my house which is where i keep my yoyos... so basically then if it is becoming responsive again then i would have thought the only thing i can do is clean it again...? as adding another drop of lube will just increase response??? i hate it when this happens cos it goes inconsistent... and i sometimes find my suicides turning into what i like to call the hand crack! ouch!!!

the problem with zippo or any lighter fluid is it might leave wax or a sticky residue. i use charcoal fluid but i make sure to spin it until im very sure that there is nothing left in the bearing. try that. if it doesnt change, i dont know.

i think you have your facts backwards. its the charcoal lighter fluid that leafves the residue. zippo fluid makes bearings pristine. ive been using it for ove two years

Paint thinner(mineral spirits) is only $3.50 for a small can. Zippo fluid and other solvents can make a quick substitute, but not much is better(and more foolproof) than mineral spirits. If you live anywhere close to a hardware store, its worth the investment.
