FH Zero Silicone question!?!?
« on: March 10, 2010, 02:52:38 AM »

Hey guys, i just silicon recessed my first FH0 and it came out really great! I only have 1 question/problem...

I like to use the big bearing spacers that come with the FH0, the ones that make the gap wider...but with those spacers, my binds arent that reliable and the yoyo is a little too unresponsive
Naturally, i switched back to the original stock bearing spacers, and lo and behold, my FH0 plays like a dream, binds great, great response when i want it, dead unresponsive when i need it to be

HOWEVER, i really really really like the way the yoyo feels in my hand much better with the big gap and i land my tricks better and feel more confident, even tho i measured and theres a total gap widtch difference of 0.4 mm

SO
Should i take out the silicone, and make the groves a little bit WIDER so that its more silicone and more responsive but use the big bearing seats
OR
Just suck it up and use the smaller bearing seats since the width of the silicon is perfect for that gap width?

learn to bind better and get the best of both worlds. Believe it or not, a wider response area is actually LESS responsive because your silicone can wear down alot more than a thinner recess. Just practice binding and you're set!

You can really tell the difference between it being less than half a millimetre wider?

Did you do both sides? If not, do the other one!

You could even add another set of recesses! See how that works, Smiley.

Gotta cut deeper, those binds are gonna be looser than megan fox.

YYJ shims are like 0.15mm and 0.30mm each. So its 0.30mm with a pair of gray and 0.60mm with a pair of red. And yes ... u can tell the different between fx a shim'd Lyn and a non-shim'd Lyn, right?

How far away is the recess from the bearing ?
The recess should be where the three small dot/depressions are around the bearing. This would create a wall between the recess area and the bearing of about 1/16".
The farther away the recess is from the bearing seat, the looser your binds will be.

the recesses are like rlly rlly close to the bearing seat, probably like 1 mm away from them...i read up on it before and they said try to do the recess as close to the bearing seat (realistically) as possbly because it guarantees tiighter binds, thats what i did...when my yoyo DOES bind, it binds very tight, very neat and without excess string

i do feel the difference between both sets of spacers, otherwise i wouldnt be writing this...i feel like its visually noticeable too

I can bind really well, i dont think thats the issue

i guess ill just play around with both sets of spacers and make up my mind

really? i did this work on my fathers jewelry bench, enssentially the highest speed and quality dremels and bits available (they gotta cut gold platinum and diamond!) so i do have the recources to make a THIN 2nd recess if i wanted to, i kinda like the idea of this, it would be thinner than the first recess but just as deep a few milimeters from the original recess...have you done this before? has anyone done this before? sounds like a good idea and would make the wide spacers nice but this is my only FH0 (yea believe it or not) and i dont wana screw it up...

thanks to everyone btw

I like 1/16th" from the bearing, 1/16th" deep and 1/16th to 1/8th wide.

Dude, i think you've got your inches and millimeters mixed up....

grey are 0.38 and the red are 0.76mm..
or 0.015 for grey, and 0.030 for red in inches...
so 2 red will give you 1.52mm extra gap...

Yeah i can tell the difference in gap... but in the hand?
