new skyline questions...
« on: February 23, 2010, 09:07:11 PM »

i just bought a new yyf skyline (first yyf and all metal yoyo)...

started playing with it and noticed that the string easily finds itself on one side of the bearing and then the yoyo will start rotating left or right... makes things difficult when doing trapeze type tricks as sometimes the yoyo would start to rotate off the string...

havent had this issue with my legacy... is this just that type of yoyo and that i need to practice or could there be a problem??? i do have a concave bearing but didnt want to resort to that just yet...

I'd put a Konkave in it. I have one in my Skyline and Superstar, my 2 favorite yoyos right now.

Nope. The string centering problem probably isn't the yoyo's fault. The turning as a result of the non-centered string is caused by the high rim weight. I always prefer kk's high rim weighted yoyos. The string can always go off center in long combos or from a non-perfect throw and result in turning or slowing down from rubbing.

Large gap yoyos tend to tilt. Just learn to deal with it. KKs aren't necessary, just play and cope with it. Makes you stronger.

if you are an extremely slow player this may be a problem but as long as you keep the yoyo moving it cant tilt too much

Are you using a stock bearing?  Skylines have a large gap that if the bearing is not perfectly straight like yyf bearings, there will be a little groove between the bearing and the lip of the bearing seat.  I had a 10 ball in it and it has a rounded bearing edge the string would get stuck in the groove significantly slowing the yoyo down. When I put a yyf bearing in, no more problem.

?
its brand new...

i am getting better with it...

using stock bearing...

i think the kk will improve things a lot too...

i dont really get a super long spin out of it but thought that may also be due to the string touching the sides during tricks...

and yes i am still a fairly slow player...

I would suggest throwing the yoyo harder and straighter.*

*Even if you think you are throwing it hard enough, trust me, you aren't. It takes a lot of practice to get a really good throw, but it's worth it to keep working at it!

its playing a lot better now Smiley

one more question though:

i have noticed that the axle can be screwed in and out as it is loose... is that normal? the yoyo still tightens properly but seeing as this is my first yyf yoyo thought i would check...

yes... it's normal

Might i suggest reading a few reviews of your yoyo of choice, and reading a few maintenance guides to familiarise yourself with yoyos and yoyo parts..?

It would save such..err ... basic threads & questions..
