yoyo case question
« on: March 12, 2010, 07:42:06 PM »

Hey! I'm trying to make a yoyo case and found a few questions
1. Would foam that looks like  egg carton work?
2. I was looking for case that is about 30 x 15 x 5. However I cant find a case like that, if anyone finds one please tell me.
3. Would 50 x 9 x 3 case work as yoyo case?
4. If I buy smaller case, I have to put yoyo on the other side of the case. and If I lay them down, wouldn't the yoyo "fall"? (I'll be making round hole)
Example:   http://i61.servimg.com/u/f61/13/01/64/33/01011.jpg <- this is youthman's yoyo case, sorry I didn't get your permission
5. How can you make a star shape hole? size?

Thanks,
Justin

egg carton foam will work... its the dimensions that are important... you need something that gives all around padding of the yoyo... depending on how paranoid you are... its really just something to pad the yoyos... flat foam would be more practical.

measure the size of your yoyos and that will determine the size of the case... taking into consideration how much room you want for padding...

50 x 9 x 3... is that inches? or cm's? if inches... that's a mighty big case! if cm's... then like i said go measure your yoyos...

the yoyo may fall if it isnt snug enough... i made the cutouts a bit smaller then the diameter of the yoyo... the other option is to get some velcro, attach it to some vinyl or something like that and cover each half of the case so that they cant drop out...

why would you want a star shape hole??? cut it in the shape of a star Smiley

the star shaped holes are better for holding larger sized yoyos without ripping the foam and a the same time being able to hoold smaller yoyos

well i want start's so i can have all hole of the same size and fit almost any yoyo. i dont want to go all the way through so theres padding on the sides.

holes done with a can will fit any metal yoyo excluding the new yoyo recreation ginormous yoyos and the mighty flea

all you do is use a small tomato pste can and cut all the way through. take out the piec that got stuck inside the can. cut it in half and put one half in the hole. there you go. exactly how the yomega bags were. and you can stack loopers on top of each other in one hole

Hey man, i would recommend that you use 2 in. thick foam which will cover about every yoyo out there.  For example, in my case i have 2 in. foam cut all the way through with a small hunt's tomato paste can, and it completly covers my very wide pyro.

Pics of my case:

If you use two inch foam, i would recommend that you get a case that is an even number on the depth.  For ex. again, lol: if you have two layers of two inch foam, you need a four in. (depth), case. If you have a five in. case, it would be very loose. See what i am saying???  Smiley

Good luck!

Thank you all for the help. what i am working on is re foaming my hyper spinner case to hold more than 8.
the pro i was having are all the pre cut holes dont hold even my biggest yoyo's so my small ones fall right out.so what i think im going to do because the star's would be to much work,i plan to do rectangles so they stand up right im thinking 2in foam should cover any standing yoyo right?

i dont have many yoyos yet but i basically cut the hole straight through and then layered a thin piece of uncut foam either side of the thick foam that holds the yoyos...

for cutting i actually have an old electric meat cutter that has been attached to a piece of board upside down... so its almost like a bandsaw... perfect for cutting light stuff like foam... then i just accurately draw out the dimensions of what i am cutting and trace with my homemade bandsaw Smiley
