Any Cheaper Alternatives to the Peak?
« on: February 26, 2010, 11:19:53 AM »

Yep, is there anything that I can get USED for around $50 that is similar to the peak?
I want something around the same dimensions, C bearing and dual siliconable.
As far as play, it's got to be stable and mildly floaty just like the peak.

Any criticism will be taken as constructive, thanks!
By criticism, I mean all those people who go "Oh, it'll never play like the peak" or "Oh, are you out of your mind" etc.
Jeez, I'm sensitive. Moving along...

IMO, get a Legacy. It has a very similar profile to the Peak. It's also an amazing player, even when compared to yoyos such as the Peak.

here are some nice choices

chopped pyro
-hard to find
-hard to assure in good condition
-floaty as heck
-pad response, might not be siliconable

Project 1
-floaty
-smaller than peak
-pad response, might not be siliconable

Legacy
-Oh so cheap
-dual silicone
-not at all floaty
-near identical shape as peak

FG Peak
-sure fire way to get a peak
-below $50 if you don't mind dings
-just keep waiting on the BST until there is one below $50. There will be one. Don't worry.

this is an awesome list, and if you like the legacy it is based off the Dark Magic so im sure it would be pretty similar.

Hey, thanks for all the help. I took a few of the restrictions off.
Not to sound nooby, but what does the FG in FG Peak stand for?

Fools Gold.  It's the Caribou Lodge term for B-grade.

Didn't this post exist somewhere already?  I swear I answered this one time...

Duh! I can't believe I din't notice that earlier. I know hat you're talking about.
And this WAS an old post on a thread shared with many other topics.
It was just getting a bit cluttered, and so I made this thread, in cooperation with the recent PSA.

I think the New Breed plays fairly similar, but that could just be me.

I agree, the New Breed is closer to the Peak than any other plastic I've used.

BTW, is anybody a HUGE fan of the K-OS or the K-OS Extreme?
Just wondering if they play heavy and solid for 5A.

That's because anyone with an answer has probably given one already; except for the K-OS thing, which isn't in the title. You know what to do when you have a new unrelated question.

get a bully. It plays better than a peak too, just isnt beadblasted(and doesnt look as cool). Spins longer and smoother though. Definitely could find a used one for 50 bucks. About the same shape/weight/specs, and it plays kinda floaty.
