Is 1A Dead?
« on: January 10, 2010, 01:06:05 PM »

Out of all of these "year in review" threads that I've been seeing on various forums, alot of people point to the death of 1A. So, what exactly happened?

I yoyoing some tunnel, and it only goes for a certain amount of time, for a certain amount of tricks, and nothing new will emerge? Or are we missing something completely, some single move or transition or event that will rock our world?

Is it that we don't have any more innovation, or we're just not looking hard enough?

Discus and explain....

1A is exactly as dead as it's been since 2003.

How is this in anyway a legitimate response to what the OP is asking?

Well, If 09 worlds 1a was any indication, it may as well be. god that stuff was boring. i liked prolly two or three of finals 1a freestyles, and mickey's just keep getting worse and worse and ever more monotonous.

Contest 1A? A little. There's still Jensen, Ando, Yuuki, Anthony Rojas, etc., but I'd imagine that the scene will only get more choked with speed. But, if you only pay attention to freestyles, you're missing out BIG time. In that regard, 1A is nowhere near dead.

If 1a is dead, then it makes one hell of a zombie. Most of what I see is 1a.

Jensen's freestyle at worlds was very impressive. But Shinya's definitely wasn't.

I think we are going to see some great tricks this next year or two. There are a lot of cheaper, better yoyos getting into more players hands.

2007 was the year of 5A

until 1A reaches the same lack of popularity and innovation that 2A has, I wouldn't consider it 'dead'

Shinya kidos FS was pretty awesome imo.

I don't think it's dead.  I wish i saw more 5a, but almost every thing i see is 1a.

Edit: Alot of the 1a  see is cinda boring.  So it's not dead but it's not very exiting.  Now there is still some exiting 1a it's just "contest 1a" that is boring.  And most of the 1a i see is "contest 1a"

i think for convenience, people like to try to make 'contest yo-yoing' and 'yo-yoing in general' the same thing. personally, i feel like i get to see crazy stuff i've never seen all the time (i'd drop names, but what would be the point?), and i make up tricks that excite me almost every day.

people love to bemoan the death of 1a, as if it's the responsibility of this or that player to keep it alive. if its present state is a problem for you, BREATHE SOME LIFE INTO IT YOURSELF. 1a (and yo-yoing in general) belongs to you (yes, you personally), and is only as dead as you wish it to be.
