Crap, I forgot the second M didn't I?
|
well I would like to know what is the most eficient way to dry your bearing as of now i always let it dry over night to get every last little fume out of the bearing before i would use a can o' air and before that i would spin it at the end of a pencil blah blah blah
anyway
i know that letting it dry overnight gets it all out but i have read things about it leaving residue behind does that happen?
and if i were to just start spinning it dry again how long should i sit there and spin it? will it really get enough spirits out of the bearing?
Thanks guys!

I usually spin dry it for like 15 minutes... both ways. It's to make sure that I don't leave anything behind.

A quick blast of canned air after a solvent bath (like lighter fluid or mineral spirits) works wonderfully.

I am fortunate enough to have an air compressor that I use to blow dry my bearings after cleaning them.
If I don't have access to that I'll use one of those cans of compressed air.
If not that, I set it on a paper towel which absorbs the mineral spirits very quickly.
Personally I think overnight is overkill.

Myself i normally soak it, take it out wrap it in a paper towel and shake it for a few seconds, then put it down for about 20 mins... giving it 1 spin after 10 to check for smoothness.
Pin drop of lube then don't touch it again for another 2-3 months..

love my air compressor, its great for that job, so dry bearings and makes that 15min of spinning it w/ your thumb ( ) done in about 30 sec of blasting, i do it for about 10 sec of blasting. Works wonders and i have never had a bearing crap out on me =].

Just leave it on a paper towel for a few minutes, lube and play!
