888x is made to conform to the new 'Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act' and is certified as such. Currently I am unaware of any other (non-yoyofactory) yo-yo, plastic or metal, which can conform to these safety standards.

What happened in here? Is this a post about hating china?
So the 888x is made in China. Ever been to China? It's excellent. I love China. I travel there all the time. And even though I personally do a great deal of shopping in China, a serious look around your homes would reveal a startling amount of quality chinese produced goods. The location something is built has absolutely no bearing on the quality. Rather, it's the way something is produced, who does the producing, and what materials / equipment is used. China has access to high quality everything, and has the capacity to produce exceptional goods.
For instance: I live in Calgary. SPYY yoyo's are made in Calgary. If I made a yoyo, would people say "Oh, it's a Calgary made yoyo. It's high quality, because SPYY is high quality."
Thats absurd. I don't even own a YYF product, but I'm willing to wait and see the quality before I say "Oh, that's clearly crap. It's crap because of this preconception I have."

They also export poison candy, dog food, baby formula, etc. Great manufacturing standards there.

The production quality in China isn't really bad, it's just cheaper. Now why would something be cheaper in another country?

I'm liking this conversation. Mainly, though, I'm just hoping the quality of the 888x is on par with what I've heard about the previous 888's. I am looking to be a first time 888 owner and have been waiting for the 2010 release, so I was a little apprehensive about the price drop, because rational or not I figure that if it's cheaper in price it could end up being cheaper in performance.
I'm not all against chinese made products as I have many of them myself. Many, though, are items than are clearly superior to other products, such as the iphone to other phones. If there was an american made phone that could come even close to what the iphone provides, I would lean towards that.
That said, I have read previous posts that insinuate that Chinese goods are no worse than other goods, and statistically that is absolutely false. Our government is spending massive amounts of our tax dollars on trying to control the quality of these goods, and nearly all of it is "China driven".

That is, Chinese goods are not inferior. Just chinese manufacturers. YYF is not a chinese manufacturer. It's all ok.

We work with many vendors around the world and have found good and bad everywhere. For this project we have selected a state of the art facility who were capable of holding the precision tolerances we meet in domestic production. It hasn't been an easy process but it has been a rewarding one as the final product we will be delivering we believe to be as fine (and in some aspects superior) to anything we have delivered previously.

i thought it ment that the yoyo would be bigger, i really want alike a 53.75mm one, imo thad be prefect, id buy 4-5 of them ben.
They made one, its called the DNA. It didnt sell very well. they are even still in stock both team edition and raw.thats because theyre 63g (i think) and that is just way too light in my opinion, the production run DNA that i tried was amazing

Dare I ask if there has been any improvement on the bootlegging front? I ask because surely there are now implications for companies producing fake 888's at least. I want to see rev #9

wow i love these threads where someone askas a simple question then it gets all tangled up to where people type multiple paragraphs on somthing only mildly related to the question..it makes me laugh But IMO China yoyos arent crap. but i dont like them as much (well plastics at least ) because its like a gamble, you dont quite know if your going to get a good one or not im basing this oppinion off of my die nasty that wobbled like crazy. this made me think that all YYF newest yoyos were not hot. but then after seing some reviews i realized that it is a gamble and i got one that was on the lower end of quality. But usually metal yoyos that come from China (mass produced) are better for players that dont have the expectations that every metal is going to play like an ILYY. because even if the have a little vibe they play fine and it makes everything cheaper well thats my 2 cents

For us the switch was mainly driven by capacity. 888 is our flagship metal yo-yo and #1 seller. We could have quite easily made a fundaMETAL or a 'new' product in China but we slapped 888 on it, a name well known, which is like a guarantee of performance and quality. We also didn't cut any corners, in raw materials we kept our grade requirements high, in finish i think everyone will agree we stepped up with these. If we had cut these corners you would see an even lower price but we havn't done that and I don't want you to expect anything less from this 888.
And if it doesn't meet your expectations of an 888 we will stand behind it with a warranty.

Its Yoyofactory.
Its going to play great Its going to look great ...And its going to be less expensive than before.
Not to mention backed up with a proven and reputable warranty; I don't think there is anything to complain about.

The king is back. Eight8eight is a legend, and the 888x will see that continue into the future. The best finish an 888 has ever seen smoothness you expect. YYF contest team are calling this the best 888 yet and the surprise? The price! a sub $100 eight8eight for the 1st time ever! surely we all trust the team members? .. surely im getting 1..

It's all about the warranty. If there wasn't one, almost no way would I get it. Since there is, though, all of this is really not much of an issue.
