I have a california. it has a bent axle. It won't go out so i can replace it. It's only half removed. pretty simple right?
before you say anything, i've tried the following methods
pliers
needle-nose pliers
channel lock pliers
hex key (and stripped the hex head on the axle, i should add)
rubber bands and pliers of all kinds.
sigh. I thought the calis had problems with the axle falling out. How i wish that were so.

i don't have a vice grip, but i can't imagine it working. the cloth would cause it to slip (i tried the same thing with pliers) and i have this feeling it requires an indecent amount of force to remove.

If you're going to replace the axle anyway, I don't suppose it matter if you crush it - stick the axle in a vise, clamp is down as hard as possible, then grab and rotate the yoyo.

I'm surprised the channel-lock pliers didn't work. You could try removing all the accessories on the half with the axle stuck in it (bearings, complete hubstack, etc.) soak the entire piece in WD-40 to try and loosen up the axle, wipe the axle with a cloth to remove the oil, then try the channel-lock pliers or the vice.

yeah i'll have to try that. i have this sneaking suspicion somebody freaking glued the axle in.

If that's the case you could soak it in acetone. It won't hurt the aluminum but will remove any and all glue.
One thing I forgot to mention, be sure to also remove the pads when doing these things.

I use the chuck on my mill (drill press works the same). Clamp it down like a drill bit and unscrew it. Surprisingly, this doesn't damage the axle if you don't clamp it too hard, and the axle doesn't spin. Of course in your case, it doesn't really matter since the axle is already bent.

wait, do you put a cloth on it, while using pliers?
i don't. it damages the axle but if the axle isn't usable, i would just grab it with pliers. and twist it hard.
