i'd pay $40 a year if it was really good and monthly and came with a 30 pack of highlights for every issue but i don't think it would happen,
but for real pat, pack in highlights with every issue if you do this. that would make it so so very worth it.

The information would be out of date. The idea of 30 highlights a month is actually really, really nifty, but, I don't see the need for a print publication when there are so many online resources. Plus, how in the heck would YYN manage two stores, a forum, and a magazine all at once?

Well i really think it would be too much of a hassle for YYN, just to get a few bucks.
1. Who would really need it, we all know whats going on in the community by just browsing the web for 10 mins. Yes sure, maybe it would be nice for some of the people who can always get online a lot, but even so it takes 2 mins to visit yoyo skills, and look at some more recent topics on YYN to see whats going on.
2. How much can they really charge, because im sure it would not be cheap to print, and the information on it can all be freely obtained online.
3. It really won't bring yoyonation any money, Pat is already super busy, so why bother?
4. Ok yes, it would be cool to get one in the mail and all, but how much really goes on the the yoyo community each month? How the hell would you fill up a whole magazine with yoyo news from the last month. Yea sure, maybe an interview with a yoyoer, but they already have some podcasts and stuff.
5. YYN already has a blog with any YYN news on it.
I like the highlight idea, but maybe they can put out an issue every 4 months, lookin back on the past few months, throw in 2 or 3 interviews. Up coming yoyos, and write up on contests. Maybe put some of that awesome stuff Adam Brewster writes in there. It could work, i mean some info would be dated, but it could work. I could come with like 50 highlights an issue. However, this really wont help YYN financially, so it really does not make sense.

Yeah the internet more or less killed the need for any yo-yo magazines. Anyone remember Yo-Yo World?
That was a nice magazine, had reviews, tricks, news here and there, contest results, etc. But now, if you publish any of that in a magazine, the whole time you read it you'll be thinking "so tell me something I don't know..."
Magazines are nice but I think the small niche we have has evolved past magazines.

the way i thought of it was not everyone wants to spend all that time going around to all the different links and casts to catch up on whats new, and to have manufacturers updates and upcoming contest information, as well as interviews of famous players, about tricks, tips, and what yoyos theyre using and why. not to mention, i know people who dont even yoyo ask me questions about the yoyoing world that i would love to be able to tell them "check out the magazine". and our "little" niche isnt as small as some think. I am starting to believe that we are getting closer to a "boom" and I am not sure but i think this might be a exponential expansion of recognition.(like skateboarding/snowboarding, etc.) as i see it theres no end in sight. just look at what happend to pat. this site started out as nothing, and in the blink of an eye pat is running around like a chicken without a head. no offense pat but youve got a lot on your hands and its gonna get worse. i think YYN should take every advantage they have and run as fast as they can because just look around, new yoyo manufaturers are popping up and theres more to come, contests are getting bigger, players are getting better, and i know theres new play styles to come(more A's) look at matador style weve just scratched the surface of that and steve brown plays 5A with both ends! this isnt something thats going to fade away like it has in the past, new technolegies and breakthroughs are coming faster and faster. the hubstack was just the beginning, whats next? who knows... a multi axis rotation yoyo? and it would be a better toilet reader than whats out there. also i think it would draw in a whole new scale of players numbers. this could be the next olympic sport for all we know. steve brown could be known as the next tony hawk (just making examples, i know hes retired to give the rest of us a chance) i also think we're in line for our own "y-games" show on TV. just think about it.

Why? So I can look at pictures on a piece of paper rather than a computer screen?
As if any of you don't know what's going on anyway. String Burn live already has the problem of telling people things people already know about, most of you here stick to the companies like glue and it isn't hard to notice when something new comes around, not to mention Yoyoskills.com is normally ahead of any news we get, if anything they should be the ones getting a magazine.

while we're on the topic of subscriptions, though, i WOULD pay out for regular deliveries of (X) numbers of (Y) strings, so i don't have to worry about buying string myself. That'd be kinda cool, actually.

I think that a Yoyonation magazine is a great idea-- tournament standings, stories and interviews, new yoyos, etc. but sadly it's just not practical. It takes alot to go into a magazine, and although people will subscribe, the cost of labor for creating a magazine + printing fees would not generate (enough) profit in my opinion. Unless you want to pay 60$ a month or something :p
However, yoyonation does have a podcast. If they were to have a quick segment in each episode or a monthly episode that covers YYN Magazine type material (if they haven't been doing this already), then that would be awesome. Also, they should go video (I'm already a big fan of video podcasts so this would be pretty cool.)
As for string subscriptions, I think that's a great idea. People need new strings on a constant basis, so it seems practical. The only problem that I can see so far is setting up a subscription system type thing on the site that will cater to factors such as wanting string types/colors per month or whatnot and pricing, but that's something that can be sorted out. Someone mention this to pat!

plus there's not much overhead involved in the string system. Just some inventive coding.
