Red gasket
« on: September 08, 2009, 12:44:49 PM »

I was trying to figure out what silicone I should use for a wooly marmot I am getting soon, and I saw a video on youtube that uses red gasket. Unfortunately, they did not say what brand they use, so I was just wondering, which red gasket (or other type of silicone or gasket) lasts the longest and gives the tightest binds, while allowing the yoyo to accept multiple layer of string and not affecting spin time in a negative manor.

Thanks a ton for taking the time to respond!

a well done recess of any kind of silicone will do everything you need. everybody has their own preferences. i prefer simple flowable because it's easy to apply and lasts a good amount of time. In my experience (and others have had COMPLETELY different ones) red gasket maker plays brilliantly for a while but wears out way too quickly.

I have used red gasket maker for a while and I love it. For me it lasts forever. I also have a FHZ with flowable. It plays great also. It will take some practice learning to apply red gasket maker but once you get the hang of it it is pretty easy to do. Flowable on the other hand is easy to use without practice, just put it in the groove and let it cure.

As for what brand to buy, most of us just use Permetex. It is available at auto parts stores.

I've indexed the colors here:

And yes, Permatex is the best, I've tried a bunch of others Smiley

Yeah the versachem I've used wears out too easily, it's not resilient at all. In both yo-yos I've used it in, it has worn out within a week. It doesn't fly out on me, just the top surface gets all chippy and it recesses itself further and further during play.
