I made an index here showing what types of silicone work well and what the colors mean: http://www.yoyonation.com/talk/index.php/topic,50940.0.htmlUse the permatex stuff. It costs 5-8 dollars, you can find it at any auto parts store. One tube should last you for over a year. Don't use the bathroom & kitchen stuff, you'll just end up making a huge mess.

Nope, just use the permatex stuff. If you've got a Lowe's, chances are you've got an Oreilly or Autozone too

that will work. Any kind of RTV silicone (which actually is every kind silicone that you can buy) will work, but caulk type silicones dont work particularly well. Adhesive and sealant type silicones will work though.

depends on how well you do the recess and how deep the groove is. I've had recesses last anywhere from 10 days to forever. But it will last.

The second one is the one you want. The first one DOES NOT harden. If you go to auto parts store you can get flowable, which is much easier to apply.
