New to the world of yo!
« on: August 28, 2009, 09:47:14 AM »

Greetings all,
I'm new to yoyoing and wondering what is a good yo to start with and get a practice routine with. I'm interested in starting off on 1a but hope to play in all formats. Thanks all in advance!

I didn't care for the velocity for long after I used it, and soon found my self upgrading. My brothers Kickside on the other hand seems to be a great throw for beginners.

So far the choices are

Velocity
Kickside.

There are so many variables to a good starter yoyo. I'd asy the velocity is probably going to be the best pics due to its response changability.

The YYF Velocity is probably the best beginner yo-yo on the market right now.  It's a great and inexpensive yo-yo to learn with.  The width of the response area is adjustable so learning to bind is much easier.  It's great for advanced players as well.  Here's David Ung using one.

Buy one here.

You'll also need a big pack of strings.  You may not think so, but you'll be switching your string out for a new one at least once a week if not more.  Fresh strings are much easier to use.  Either get 100% White Poly, which is nice but doesn't last as long, or YYN Highlights which are also really nice and will last longer in your yo-yo.  They are also bright dayglow colors so they are easier to see when you're playing.  I like the green ones.
