Counter Attack Impression...
« on: August 21, 2009, 06:43:25 PM »

It's awesome.

The most solid playing plastic I've had, because most other plastics play sorta floaty-flimsy.

K-pads and a Center Trac Bearing... The best straight out-of-the-box play ever (That I've played.)

Full review coming most likely after the weekend.

Would it be possible to get a picture of the center track bearing?

You get the point. Slants in from the side and the middle is flat. Plays awesome.

I'm sure this is a much better play than the Legacy...

Different feel.

I just tried it briefly but I thought the Counter Attack felt too heavy.  The Protostar on the other hand I absolutely love.

Too heavy compared to the Legacy? I feel that the Legacy is too heavy for me, although it's my main throw for the moment.

I would imagine that the Protostar would feel as heavy as the Counter Attack. We'll see as the new Death to Metal plastics are released I guess.

Well, it does feel heavy. Most plastics I've played (except a fully weight ringed PGMv1, Legacy, and weight ringed old FH2) felt really light and too floaty for my tastes. So, this was a good playing change. Now, for the heaviness feeling... I think it comes from the yoyo having less center weight. The Legacy has just about the same weight and it's definitely a different feel. But that's just my take on it.

Also, the bearing-spacer combo has a really tight fit. No parts explosion once out of the times I took it apart.

It's about as heavy as a superstar, not bad imo. This and the protostar are the two best plastics they have.

Looks nice, although I really dislike those bearing spacer deals.  Fighting with those things is quite annoying.

Do it have "Factory marks" ??

And is the bearing good for suicides? (most people thinks kk is bad for these kind of tricks)

I asked this in the other thread but maybe someone who knows the answer won't catch it. Anyway can the metal ring also be used as an IRG? Or was this not really meant to be thumb grindable. Anyway anyone with some info let me know  Afro

The dome cover gets in the way of thumb grinds. I'll learn to take it off sooner or later, but for now, I'm just going to enjoy the play.

Also, it's fun for 5a.

As for Factory Marks, it has a few and swirly blemishes in the plastic. My suicides have been just fine.

And @ Vendetta, It's such a hastle. I stabbed myself in the palm trying to remove it, but once removed, I swapped out the spacers with a PGMv2... Now it's not a problem. The tight fitting spacers are in the PGMv2, and since I don't take it part much, everythings fine.

I remember with my PGMs, I couldn't get the bearing out for the life of me on one of them.  For the other one that I was able to remove, I had to hold the spacers (or whatever they are) with pliers, which ended up marring the surface of the spacer.  I know it is essentially the same yoyo with metal weight rings, but it is a bummer to see they used the same design for the bearing seat.

Don't get me wrong, I actually really like the bearing spacer setup. I'd take it over YYJs bearing seat design anyday, seeing as the plastic is is the bearing seat. It's just the bearing to spacer is a ridiculously tight and so hard to get off. I was able to get it off, but I did scratch up the surface of spacer. It still plays perfectly fine, but now the tight fitting spacer gets to enjoy the bearing in my PGM while the looser spacers are in the Counter Attack.

In short- the bearing's a bootleg KK.

In long- it's not a bootleg kk. but it has the same effect without killing suicide loops. It's a great bearing though.
