2007: Trends
BAPE Status will wear off when everyone and their mom has roadstas, but more and more streetwear brands will be represented.
Kink/Origami style 1A will make way for large body motion (see: Cosky, Yuuki, Han, Weber style) tricks.
2A will get 20 more players, but they won't be Japanese, so nobody will care.
3A is the new black, get on it while you can.
4A will continue to die a slow death, as it is currently being held together by maybe 5 players.
5A will see way more people set their stuff up for astro, and anyone who sticks to beesting and electric fan combos is going to be left in the dust by 3 or 4 shiny starlots.
10 new "companies" will start up, and 9 of them will fail.
Silly trends like beadblasting, sandblasting, satin finishing, double anodizing, stone washing will get ever more popular among players not ready for competition.
2007: The Year Case-Culture takes off.
I'm calling it right now. This year, you'll go to contests, and every third kid is going to be carrying around a case full of metal yoyos from all over the world. They'll be all different colors, finishes, shapes, sizes, response systems and names. They'll range from mediocre to pretty good (more leaning towards the previous), but it won't even matter. All they're going to become are status symbols. Meeting will have less trading tricks, more figuring out how to center the axle on your new Cranberry-Vanilla colorway Jamaica.
2007 Worlds:
I'm not on the judge panel or whatever is deciding the rules this year, so I can't say anything to that regard. Nonetheless, the rules will be deemed unfair by a large group of people, a similar amount of fan favorites are going to not make it past compulsories (whichever format they may be), while at least 5 people that have no business being on stage will make it on, whereas Paul and Yuuki are going to not bother reading any of the rules until the night before and still place Top 5.
1A: Cosky, Han, Spencer, Suzuki will all place Top 5. Showmanship will be at its highest, and I'll love every second of it.
2A: A NASA representitive will be on site to analyize Shinji's footage, while Kiwamu, Shuuhei, and Koji will go crazy-nuts with tricks.
3A: Will be the most interesting division to see. I can't even say anything except 3A is skyrocketing and I wanna sit back with an iced tea and soak it in.
4A: Aik Hwee isn't coming. ....I guess it will be okay.
5A: 4 out of the Top 5 will come from the USA, and oddly enough, most likely compete at Mass States. ....but Miggy will deserve to win regardless. Frankly, for as many people that play this style, it is going absolutely nowhere. I hope this changes.
CD: Twice as many competitors, 5 times the ferocity.
Video: Hopefully someone besides me will take care of this.
What do you see happening?

awesome post, alot of these things sound pretty realistic; wouldent be surpirsed if they came true.
i think that one of the top 5 1A players in worlds will do a trick involving landing the yo in a pocket...
random i know... but after all the texas cowboy style stuff, this could be next.

why thank you, thank you. Very interesting post. That's extramly interesting, and I really hope it's true I've always found the large body motion tricks cooler looking, more stylish and possibly If taken to the level origomi tricks have been taken to, much harder

People that say 5a is going no where has never seen JonRob and tyler..
I'm sorry but after I saw their freestyles I almost wet myself. Can't wait to see what they are going to do at VA states.
To me 4a is going to be amazing this year and its going to be a while till it dies out. My opinon!
And I completely agree with you on the case though. I think are people paying too much on metal yo-yos when you should be playing a little more. But, im not going to lie I have 4 metals myself. But i dont think I'm going to get another one for quite a while. Once again This is my opinon so dont jump on me about this.LOL.

thank you boxxy. i'm really pissed off at schoolwork right now and it helps to read a post that sounds correct. feels nice that you agree with me that yoyoing is only getting fatter and not taller.
i predict that some newb will finally figure out what we mean by you can't go wrong with either. instead of just skimming by it and asking what he should buy with his 100$ that could be well saved/invested elsewhere.
as for the fan contest at worlds. somebody's mom will make him dress up in a nerd costume go on the View and say "world yoyo contest" in a little girls voice while the 4 ladies afterward will argue in their chicken bawk language that cute little kid is going to win the contest.

Me being pretty new here, I think the whole yoyo economy is pretty interesting. Most sports or hobbies have an accepted "best" equipment. Like dj'ing, if you want the best stuff you just get Technics and that is all there is to it. With yoyo's it is not that way at all. Sure, one person may have their favorite, but that one is surely not thought of as the best by the next player down the line.
Also, in a couple of aspects, one of these metals has the advantage of almost directly equating to better play by the noob. Sure, they might develop bad habits or not strive to get the more advanced tricks with more response, but they can do the advanced tricks with just a little bit ofexperience instead of days upon days of practice. The yoyo simply spins longer and is more stable.
In no other hobby have I ever encountered such an enticing "buy" system. Most of these yoyos are made once, or perhaps a couple of times and then that is it. You cant just drop by the store and get them whenever, they are there then they are not. After that you have to rely on buying from another person, scary to say the least.
I am definetly garbage compared to many people on this board, I started yoyoing about a month ago because I found my old yomega brain. Work as a valet for a yacht club, thought, hey...you know, I have a lot of free time, why not. Now I cant seem to get enough of it and have been wholeheartedly dragged into what I talked about above. Interesting to say the least.
