Absolute basics... Keeping it straight.
« on: January 06, 2006, 05:51:18 PM »

OK, I'm wondering if any of you have any tips/tricks about this beyond just practicing. I know I have to practice. I just watched Willie's 1.5 Mount instructional and just can't do it. So, I'm looking for help.

Anyway, the issue is keeping the yoyo in a straight line - specifically on side-style tricks. I can land a trapeze and even a 2or0 and Houdini Mount. However, I always feel like the yoyo hits my finger in different places, which can throw it slightly off course causing a miss.

I'm thinking maybe trying to keep my elbows touching my sides might help some.

Any other tips on this?

And a couple of related questions:

How far do you usually keep the yoyo away from your body? Do you just have to continually make slight 1"-3" adjustments to keep it in line?

Where on your fingers do you try to hit for side-style tricks? What joints?

Thanks,
Jason

hey jason...i'll answer your questions in order...or try to....

first off when you say "you feel the yoyo hits your finger in different places" what do you mean?  the yoyo shouldn't hit your finger at all....or do you mean string?  if string is the case, then yes, it should be hitting your finger in different places...take double or nothing for instance.

The most important part though, is that the last two points that connect are perfectly straight and aligned with the yoyo.

(this would mean the string segment furthest from you)  it doesn't matter (to an extent) how "angled" or whatever the strings are that aren't touching the yoyo, just as long as that last segment is straight.

you can touch your elbows to your sides, but it wont' help much because you'll need control from your arms in order to keep the yoyo straight I think......

i usually keep the yoyo  hmm.....wherever it's comfortable.  for different tricks, it's different, but I guess it's safe to say that my upper arm is usually facing down and only my forearm is extended.

joints?   hmm...i dont' really AIM for joints...unless i'm doing something like black hops hahah (still can't finish it completely).

i HOPE this helps...and i probably didn't make any sense  uglystupid2

Hey Pat - thanks for the reply.

Sorry, yes I meant the string hits my finger.

That does help a bit. It gives me a few things to keep an eye out for.

Thanks,
Jason
