While I can definitely relate to these sentiments, don't you think it's a bit... selfish?

Absolutely! I'm not saying I'm any better, but it does seem a little weird to say "I want the yoyo community stagnate so that I can continue to be unique"

My problem with the community is that we don't really want to help each other anymore. People are more concerned with their post counts and "ePenis" than actually helping people get over their problems.

I think that has more to do with anonymity on the internet - some people really have a very different personality online than in person.

In the last month or so, I've had the opportunity to meet quite a few competitive yoyo'ers and manufacturers, and I think they've all been super nice, went out of their way to help others, even noobs like me.  Yoshi, Grant, Sam Lopez, Joseph Harris, Glasseye, Paul Yath, Alex Kim, Ernie Kaiser, etc. all great guys seems to me.

I would also like yo-yoing to become huge like DrYoYo said.  In lieu of that can we at least hit sustainable?

I'm personally a bit tired of these type of posts.. if you can't enjoy yourself just because others are enjoying the same thing, you're a tool who will likely live a very sad life.

Throw because you enjoy it, period. If you don't enjoy it, don't throw.. but shut up about it.

I don't care how different anyone thinks they are, they should spend more time worrying about being themselves and much, much less trying to not be like somebody else.

If every choice in your life is made so that you don't become mainstream.. the mainstream is still controlling your life.. grow up people.

I personally enjoy throwing, designing, and manufacturing yo-yos.. that's the -only- reason I do it. I enjoy interacting with the community, so I do that too. Why that would ever be changed just because a million other people suddenly decide they enjoy it too I have no idea.

lolwut.

Community :
# a group of people living in a particular local area; "the team is drawn from all parts of the community"
# common ownership; "they shared a community of possessions"
# a group of nations having common interests; "they hoped to join the NATO community"
# agreement as to goals; "the preachers and the bootleggers found they had a community of interests"
# residential district: a district where people live; occupied primarily by private residences
# (ecology) a group of interdependent organisms inhabiting the same region and interacting with each other

Without it, there's no us.

It seems pretty easy for you guys to say that you don't want the community to grow a lot. But I wouldn't mind if it spread to the whole world so I wouldn't have to pay 20 dollars to ship a set of pads over the Atlantic. I really wouldn't mind some contests here either.

I think it will turn into a bunch of people thinking too much about where it will head next.

Damn Kyo, I can't believe you're still around. You used to be here back when I called myself "Lev," or do I have the wrong Kyo?

I agree with you, for the most part.

However, I imagine many people here yo-yo socially, and there's nothing wrong with that. If the community were to change in the way snowboarding or skateboarding has changed, throwing may become a lackluster experience.

I, for one, welcome newcomers from different walks of life, and I welcome whatever future is in-store for the sport. The more people we have throwing, the more of a chance we'll find people to throw with who we get along with. More variety!

I'm pretty tired of deliberating about this, though.

I agree 100%.

Seriously guys, more yoyoers is a good thing. More people buying products, more people just interested in learning! It's great. More yoyo companies would come up, and bring new things to the table. Forcing every company to step up their game.

I personally don't really care though. As long as I'm yoyoing I'm happy.

I don't yoyo to be unique, I'm not emo. lol

The word community implies small and sheltered, and if yoyoing has the potential to improve from that, I really hope it does.
