is the 1.5 axle turns accurate for centring it? did u figure it out yourself or did ernie give u this info?

I'm not exactly sure if it's 1.5 turns.. but I simply unscrewed one half and screwed the other until it was perfectly centered.

ya can't beat that!

If you screw the axel in one side as far as it will go, and screw the other on tight, there would only be enough room to un-screw 1/2 turn.
Thats how tight the tollerences are on those things.
Trust me,
If you are unscrewing 1 1/2 before you add the other side, you are screwing it right back where you started with out even knowing.
There is only .015" max of extra thread per side for that 8-32 x 3/8 axel.

So is it a 1/4 turn to get it perfectly centred? is it actually worth it?

No matter how i put the axle in it still gives the same result... ultimate smoothness!

If you screw the axel in one side as far as it will go, and screw the other on tight, there would only be enough room to un-screw 1/2 turn.
Thats how tight the tollerences are on those things.
Trust me,

listen to that then... i just did 1.5 and got lucky both cases....

but yea, .5 should be good enough too
