It's no secret that I love Ernie's yo-yo's. They're smoother than anything out there, they feel fantastic on the string, and they are a GREAT value in today's market.
The Torrent is epic.
The 5-star is legendary.
but...........
the tweaks Ernie made to the 2nd release have taken it to levels not seen by many. It's the BMW M5 of yo-yo's.
Mine is the "UK" edition, with Black and Green halves. As a tribute to my love of BBC's Top Gear, I have dubbed this yo, "The Stig".
It's the Ultimate Yo-ing machine.
Some thought the 1st run had a bit of a "snagging" issue, well, he fixed that. Wider gap. Very noticeable upon your 1st throw with it. With two broken in One Drop pads (with which it comes stock) the response is spot on, and snag-free.
You will also notice the reduced weight, which I think gives it a more predictable feel. That is to say, I feel I can control the actions and movements of this a tad better than the 1st run. I'm much more consistent with tight moves like chopsticks.
But the thing that immediately strikes you upon touching the 2nd release 5-star is the bead blast. It's fan-freaking-tastic. I was very pleasantly surprised to find out that Ernie did the bead blasting himself. And a fine job he did. It's the nicest bead blast finish I've ever felt. He did mask the gap area, but still take an old sock/belt, etc. and rub around the gap area, as mine has eaten strings just a bit.
There is no reason not to love this thing. Feel is fantastic. Size is fantastic. Shape is fantastic. Weight is fantastic. It's even made in the USA for crying out loud.
So do what you need to do, and plunk down the dough for this. You will not be sorry.
