I've been playing with a raw proto I got in the mail (thanks Ernie!) for the past hour and I just have to echo what everyone here is saying. The stability and smoothness of this yoyo is absolutely excellent, it's quite amazing to see my reflection clearly in the spinning yoyo. When the 16th hits, I'll have no need for my stargazers, a 5-star is all I'll need.

the anno/bb is beautiful.  the two tone green is soooo delicious.  I wish i didn't have to go to work so I could keep playing with it... sigh.

There will be well over 100 out there on the market from this run I believe...so your chance of getting one should be great.  As with any of the smaller-indy guys...how frequent they do runs in a year is always a variable that is hard to track.  Most of these guys have day jobs...so the yoyos are not their full time duty.

That being said...if you miss out on this run of 5 Stars, there is no telling how soon before Ernie puts out another.  I'd expect more runs this year...but as for the timing, you just never know.

The P2 will be in constant production....so while you will see times where it's out of stock, you can trust that they are working hard to produce more.  One Drop is their gig.   so you should always have a chance at one.

888s....well they are a dime a dozen so I would not feel rushed to get one.  GREAT player for sure...but I put the 888 behind my 5 Star and P2 without a doubt.

Yes the P2 is heavier...but the 5 Star plays heavier than the numbers indicate.  Massive rim weighting makes it a spinning beast!

The P2 will likely be more available throughout the year...whereas the 5 Star may be tougher to come by after this run.

Those are 2 of my favorite throws....so you really can't go wrong!

I'd say: the less weight, the faster the play 'cause it needs less energy to make the yo change direction.

I know you are asking the same question in multiple threads....and will likely not get the answers you are looking for.  Why do I say that?  Well....the 5 Star is only in the hands of a few....so you won't get massive amounts of feedback on it.  The P2 has only been released for a short time as well.  NOW how many people have both?!?!??!  So you see....you are looking for answers to questions VERY few people can give you.

IMHO....the 5 Star might be the better slow playing yoyo.  Why?  Well despite how much more rim weighting they've added to the P2...the 5 Star is a beast of a spinner.  So I can usually practice tricks and moves multiple times...and slowly...as it just keeps the momentum up and allows me to take my time.  That is not to say that the P2 is not a killer slow speed player...cuz it is....but the 5 Star spins unlike anything made to date (other than perhaps some novelty yos).

Again....it's lighter weight wise, but the heavy amount of rim weighing makes the 5 Star play heavier than it is.  It also has a perfect IRG...so if you like to thumb grind, the 5 Star is as good as it gets.

The P2 will be a constant production....so you should be able to get them at various times throughout the year.  Christmas?  Only One Drop knows...but I don't see why not.  The P2 is going no where....it's here to stay for a long while.

So....take ALL the info that is in the multiple threads you've posted...digest them....do some more searching....and make your own decision.  We are all giving our opinions, and ultimately you will have to see for yourself.

IMHO....get the 5 Star now....as you can always get a P2 later.

The great thing about your dilemma is, you can't go wrong with either.

Yoyu also said something about being your only metal. I would go with the 5 star because of the limited run. It should work pretty well for the bst. As many people have told you, once you throw the 5star down you never wanna let go.
