Honestly, I can't really tell too big a difference between the two. I think the black might be a little more sticky. They both work much better than the clear stuff.

Im using the copper RTV which i think is the best ive used, and i have tried the grey stuff, that BosK kindly applied for me.

I found that the grey stuff wore down too quickly and had to be re-applied after a couple weeks play.

The copper stuff is a middleground between flowable and the grey stuff.

Also with that aerosol can that u bought, is there a use by date? Most that i looked at said it had to be used within 3 months of opening, which I thought wasnt worth it.

You know, the grey just might wear down a bit faster, I did take it out of my plug in 3 for some reason. But the one I did in the 888 is holding up fine.

I haven't replaced the silicone in either of these, and here are what they look like now, featured in my trade post.

OK, never mind. These power cans are pretty useless. I tried two ways of making them reusable. I tried the nail method, and I tried the method labeled on the can:
Quote
To reuse package, leave a 1/16" length of material extending out of the nozzle. Cured material will form a protective plug.
You'll be very amused to find out that today, when I went to re-silicone my Bulldog, I found two dead cans of grey & black silicone.

Alright, so drove down Lawrenceville Highway today and stopped by Auto Zone and then Oreilly Auto Parts. Auto Zone had the red stuff that's so popular, but not much else. I asked if they had different nozzles, because I firmly believe the problem is the nozzle. I received a "No, but you can cut it to be shorter." which is obviously not an option. Bought it for 7 bucks and then stopped by Oreilly.

They had a multitude of different kinds for me to try, even a differently made power can by PERMATEX, our hero!
So over the next bit I'll try them all out and let you know what I think.

You mean the red?

I've been holding off on using that until last for some reason. I think I'll use it when the black stuff falls out of my first bulldog.

Yeah I was just doing that to bump it up and more or less keep a change log.

I might end up mixing the copper with something, or trying out more of the permatex power cans. Maybe it's the bead technology that makes it hard to deal with, I'm not sure.

How did you come to your conclusion of 30/70 black/red?

The black seems a lot grippyer than the red

So i added about 30% to the red to make it bite a bit more.
Seems to work well, minimal snaggage with super tight binds even after weeks of use
(the red alone always craps out on me and I start getting loose binds after a while)

Clear mixed with another works well too Smiley
But it gives of some funky vapours, so I’d be carful and mix/sili at arms length..

Yeah we had some interesting notes about the clear mixing in this thread

http://www.yoyonation.com/talk/index.php/topic,58163.0/topicseen.html

I'm actually wondering about the guy that's trying it out, now that you mention it makes funky vapors. >.>

I'll let you know how the copper & grey stuff turns out.

I've had a black one one side, grey on another in my 888 since I made the thread and it's holding up solid.

Ive been using a mix of clear and copper. Worked ou very nicely.

Copper has more of a grainy texture and less grippy than the clear, so mixing in the clear gives a smoother slightly more grippy outcome.

Also holds better than just straight clear as the copper stuff seems to adhere to metal a lot stronger.

I didnt experience any funky odours though when mixing.

Yeah my copper stuff stuck to my peak very well. The gray stuff seriously wouldn't cooperate though. I might mix black and copper, but I haven't tried red yet so we'll see.

What do you guys mix it all in? I was thinking paper cups, that way once they're mixed you can just fold the edge and pour it that way.

I keep to plastic phone cards in my sili kit. One for scraping excess and the other for mixing up.

If im not mixing i just squirt straight into the groove

I just use an old plate, 2 blobs of sili’ and a plastic card for mixing together

The key is managing any air bubbles ...
(the only silli i pour into the groove is flow sili')

That's really bizarre. Then again it is wal-mart. They don't sell stand-up comedy dvd's because of the language, all their cd's are edited, same with their movies. I dunno, I don't think the guys at an auto parts store would stop you. You could always get your parents to go with you to wal-mart if you're dead-set on getting it from there.

There are sometimes some funny vapors when using the silicone but the precautions are easy to take, just do it in a well-ventilated area. I still doubt that's enough to put an age limit on purchasing the stuff. Granted I wouldn't sell it to a 10 year old, but 16 is responsible enough for silicone. Another weird thing they used to do, and I'm not sure if they still do it or not, but they did ID checks when you bought rubber cement, lol.

I'll pm you as well, but I thought I'd share my thoughts about it here too.
