Best affordable 1A metals?
« on: January 22, 2009, 10:15:50 PM »

I've been looking into Dark Magic, Hitman, X-con (which is out of stock)..anyone have any suggestions?  I'm pretty new to yoing, looking for a metal with a long spin time that is pretty responsive.

Well, there aren't really any all metal yoyos out there that are responsive, unless you want a piece of crap yoyo like the metallic missile by yomega.  However, there are some really good metal yoyos that are fairly affordable (less than 80 dollars).

Here are my suggestions:  Duncan Metal Zero,  One-Drop M1,  Yoyofactory 2009 "stripped" G5.

Here is my suggestions for a good responsive yoyo:  yoyofactory velocity,  yoyofactory speed dial,  Yoyojam speedmaker, Lyn fury, or kickside.

Hope this somewhat helps

although this thread is absolutely in the wrong section, that doesn't hurt the fact that you're asking a very viable question. My recommendations for a "metal" yoyo would be the M1 for affordability and strong play. As for responsiveness, that's easy, throw another pad over the stock silicon pads and that'll add some response. Now if you want a hybrid plastic metal yoyo, I would suggest the Darkmagic if you're fairly new to yoyoing, like you mentioned.

Ooch or M1. You can add another pad  to the yo-yo and/or add YYJ thick lube (or brain lube) to a bearing to increase response.  Different pads have different response, I find Silicone more responsive than Kentaro and Dif Pads and the string can make a huge difference too with 50/50 string more responsive than polyester and many differences amongst the polyesters.

Since you are new, why don't go with plastic? They have roughly same spin time for you to learn.. Having a good metal yo-yo would not make you play better.. well it's still cooler though..

if so, get the M1 or razzle M1 or anything you can get in BST thread.

if you want it responsive, drop a thick lube in it.

I've got a nimbus.
they're super under rated (probably because they were never sold at YYN, so nobody knows about them.), but they're smooth, fast, and spin forever.

I agree. Why not get a Lyn Fury or another high-quality, grindable plastic if you're new? An FHZ might be another good choice.

Indeed
One of the smoothest yoyos I own plays kinda like an m1 to me.
And the cheapest metal I have seen next to bootlegs and the maverick.

I agree, it is one yoyo I will never sell or trade. Not for everyone, but it's perfect for me.
