Sushi
« on: November 14, 2008, 09:07:43 AM »

Since my Chinese noodle thread didnt do so well and my cigar thread got deleted I am making a sushi thread.

I just started making my own sushi this past Monday. I got some Sashimi grade tuna, avocado and this little kit that comes w/ the seaweed wraps and rice. I love sushi! The ones I made taste exactly like the stores around here and for a fraction of the price!

Who else makes their own? Where can I find just the seaweed wraps?

I make my own. I prefer smoked salmon to stock raw fish though.

I don't know where you live, but any asian food market should have some in OEM packs of 100 for around 10$. Try to go to the wal-mart sized ones.

I like making my own sushi rolls sometimes, too. I'm fond of avacado and crab, and my boys love to add a little spicy mayo to their rolls. Making the rice is tough; I just can't seem to keep it from being too sticky.  Undecided

I get my supplies from a Japanese grocery store (about the size of a Wal-Mart), and it's rather inexpensive.

nom noM NOM! I love sushi.  You need to find a really good recipe for the rice, that's the trickiest part.  It takes a special rice and cooking technique.

I love making sushi.  It's worth the patience and practice to get the rice just right.

Sushi parties are great fun too, invite a bunch of friends round, chop up a bunch of ingredients and everyone can take turns getting messy rolling with whatever fillings they choose.

I live inland and wouldn't trust the fish here, I just love them with plenty of avocado and red and yellow pepper.

Quote from some Japanese hippy backpackers:  "f you can roll a joint, you can roll sushi!"
