What, Do you get internet connection by rubbing two sticks together? Processor powered by a Hamster Wheel? Come on Elephark, this is the Broadband Age! I'm not the one putting two (and three‽) spaces after my periods...are you connecting on a typewriter? In any case, this is not the issue. I think it's more a matter of giving the viewer a good tutorial. I mean, the videos from Shawn's site, Sector Y, and MasterMagic are already pretty good, and they've been up for years. Going backwards from there is counterproductive, no? If you put a video up for direct download, an individual is able to download it once and view it later at his leisure as many times as he wishes without needing to ever reload it. He gets the video exactly as it was exported out of the video app, with no further loss of quality. He can choose the media player with which he views it, which means he can view it at any speed he wants and tweak settings. He sees no extraneous material when viewing it. If he owns a portable video player, it's a snap for him to put the video on. He can download several and organize the videos he has downloaded in any way he sees fit so he can find videos more easily without having to search. On a cold rainy night when he doesn't feel like doing anything else he can pop open his yoyo folder and steal tricks off freestyles or whatever. Streaming video requires the viewer to have a good connection with no dropouts every time he views it or shows it to someone. He then gets an inferior player interface in his web browser with inferior video quality. The ability to play stuff frame-by-frame or backwards is nonexistent, making it harder to catch certain concepts or nuances—especially those important to an aspiring yoyoer—and requiring tutorials to be longer so stuff can be pointed out. If one is worried about bandwidth, this also consumes more because in many cases the same person will come back later and reload it. What is the advantage? More compatible? That's only true if the user hasn't installed any codecs (which he should've when he got his computer) or installed VLC (which he also should've when he got his computer)...and that's ignoring that many streaming sites require the newest version of Flash to function properly anyway. Easier to find hosting? Ha. There's free hosting specifically for yoyo sites and vids at yo-yo.org, and in addition I and several others are absolutely happy to host yoyo videos for people for free (and you have space on your domain, no?). Easier to view? Okay, I'll admit left-clicking on a link is easier than right-clicking and saving it. Whee. Improvement in capability is not an excuse to use inferior methods. Why should anyone be required to have a better connection or a faster computer than they did five years ago essentially to view something that is in all respects worse? I'm sorry, I can't support that sort of reasoning and keep a clear conscience. Of course I'd like to win swag, but as it is I'll have no part in this contest. Someone else can win.

Of course on Vimeo there's an option to download the video so those who wish to do that can do that and those who wish to download can download.

Indeed, and I commend them for at least being better than YouTube in that way, but it's still an interface similar to the old Google videos one...which is to say, an inefficient Web 2.0 kludge for something that's already been done far more elegantly. You have to go to the page and log in first. If for any reason the download is halted, it must be restarted from the beginning. You also must manually rename the video if you ever hope to identify it later, unless you are good at remembering hashed filenames.

Alright Elephark, More chances for everyone else Sorry you feel that way. Vimeo was choses becasue of it's download ability, and it's liberal archive spaces. I will do you one better. Just becasue you brought it up, there will eb a link under every vid on the site for direct download. See? Everyone is happy. (and btw, you are supposed to put two spaces after a period) And this is a contest, so why hate? If you don't want to participate, no one is forcing you. Come on, Be Happy. I am. I get to give away like 5 great yo-yo's to people I love to hang out with online, for helping teach the hobby that I love.

This sounds like fun! What is the judgment criteria for DrYoYo? Music? Video (picture) quality? Use of different angles? Best explanation? Most simple/ concise explanation? Quality of trick? Hilarity? Do you prefer your text in the video, included on the side, over the clips, in between clips, in audio form?

Nobody can agree precisely what yoyoing is, yet everybody wants to argue about it and take it way too seriously to the point that people get tired of talking or even thinking about it. Thus, yoyoing is art.

Just Do the best you can. How do you like your Tutorials? Do it that way! Of course quality comes into it. You never know, the best video may be "How to Bind" for all I know.

So if you've got a mediocre camera vs. Senior HD, you're already at a disadvantage? I've never made a tutorial! I've got lots of ideas rattling around, but I don't know which to do. Is doing multiple videos for the same trick allowed by the same person?

Is doing multiple videos for the same trick allowed by the same person? Quality meaning Film, Angles, Sound, instruction, ect. There is much more into it then a super HD camera. Also, if you have a SoSo camera, Filming outside in the sunlight can do wonders. I would prefer one trick per video, and one video per trick from each person, but you can submit as many different tricks as you like! I am sure you will do fine DB. I can't wait to see what you submit!
