OK, at the suggestion of a few of you, I'm planning on learning the backspin bind first. However, I'm just messing with it at this point. I still plan on playing responsive, but would like to start throwing in a little bind practice.
Anyway, I've watched Houdini's video and I just must not be getting it.
I throw a breakaway, then pinwheel it so the yo is straight down in a sideways sleeper.
Next, I put my freehand (left) on the opposite side (right) of the string. So, the backside of my finger is touching the string.
Next is where I must be missing something. This is what it looks like to me in the video: He pushes the string to the left, which makes the yoyo lift up and mount back on the string, creating the bind. The finger is moved away quickly and the yoyo is returned. To me, this "mount" looks similar to what happens in a split-bottom mount, with the yoyo flipping over the finger and mounting - except this one is sideways.
Do I have this last step correct? That is what I'm trying to do and I always end up pushing the string slightly out away from me, which makes it miss the mount/bind.
Am I at least trying to do it correctly? It would be nice to know I have that last step correct in my head, so I know I'm headed in the right direction with my practice.
Also, any hints/tips are appreciated.
Thanks, Jason

Yes, that's basically correct, but it helps if you lift up your throw-hand slightly while pushing the string away (with your non-throw-hand) so the yoyo string pivots on your finger and makes the yoyo go upwards and around to mount on the string. You may want to practice just popping the yoyo off the trapeeze and making it swing around your middle finger into the mount.

What you should have is like a reverse trapeze. If you keep your freehand still (pinching the string) and pull your throwhand away it will bind.
If you want me to make a quick vid let me know and Il do it for you but to be honest... Houdini was the DADDY at instructional vids and mine would fully suck by comparison!
