"Andre's Bind"???
« on: October 28, 2008, 09:32:41 PM »

I love the bind Andre Boulay does at the end of a lot of his tricks in tutorials but I dont' get how he does it.

Look 20 seconds in on this video to see what I'm talking about:

http://www.expertvillage.com/video/29503_yoyo-expert-black-two.htm

Maybe my response isn't set up right but when I try it I get snags or it doesn't bind at all. When I try to do it I'm either using a Hitman with a stock bearing, widen gap, and silicone response. Or I'm using my Markmont Project everything stock.

Does anybody get how to do this (especially so smoothly)?

He's just doing a basic sidestyle frontspin bind. Honestly, I wouldn't bother with it. The reason most people do backspin binds is because they just work better.

But if you're determined to learn, I find frontspin binds are easier on slightly responsive yoyos with either small gaps or starburst response (like the DM Andre uses). His smoothness just comes from being Andre. (AKA lots of practice with tempermental response)

swing the yoyo towrds your body in a clockwise rotstion, from there, use the mometume to swing it out in front a bind.

i wouldn't even bother with it. throwing it after binding that way is just sucky. it's not a smooth bind at all.

It is smooth if you are doing it correctly..
but meh. backspins are way more consistent, I like to use frontspin binds sometimes.. makes the trick just go better...

you will also notice that just about every time he binds that way, he needs to rethrow a couple times and rebind anyway.

if you want a cool, smooth looking bind, throw a double or nothing, drop the string off your throwhand pointer, then dismount by spinning the yo counterclockwise(from your point of view) unwrapping the the two loops around your freehand pointer, then continue around and into the string again, then bind it back.  The yoyo will end up doing 3 full loops, 2 will be unwinding and the last will be your bind loop.  With practice it can look really smooth, and really fast.
Hope that made sense.

Agreed. Frontspin binds feel good.

You can learn that bind in this video:

right.  you can do them smoothly this way without a snag, but it's not as easy as a backspin bind.  you have to pay more attention to how fast the yo-yo is still spinning, the size of your bind loop and how much force you swing it outward with.  it takes practice.

It will wind back up properly if it was binded properly. Depends on the aggressiveness of the response.
