What's the deal with the spikes, though? Why are they separate? Is it like the project's hex-nut thing, but shaped into spikes? Do they spin?

I added the spikes so the axle had something metal to screw into and so I wouldn't have to worry about people stripping out delrin threads.  The spikes and axle are easy enough to replace if they strip out so the Lucha Libres are very durable.  They do not spin, but you can do matador tricks with them if you're good with spikes.

are these exactly the same shape as the luch?

I tried to make them as close as I could, but they're not the exact same angles as the Luchador.  I had to do that as delrin is not as dense as aluminum.

*edit* - I also added metal spikes to the Lucha Libre because they're metal freakin spikes!  I just thought putting metal spikes on my delrin yoyo would be cool... plus the whole functional part of them and stuff.

Thanks everyone for the compliments, this yoyo has gone through four different prototype versions and two different axle/bearing seat setups.  Just ask Pat and Weber, they've been a long time coming.

Aw, those are just a side project my buddy James made on his lathe at home for fun.  I don't think he has any intentions on making more than say a half dozen or so because they are so labor intensive.

you guys need to understand how he went the extra mile on this one. when he made the 1st protos of this thing (almost a year ago), he made a straight delrin luchador. it played great, but like a gung-fu or silk, the big axle was threaded right into the delrin. it was recognized that although this was easy and would sell no problem, it would eventually deteriorate. nate took the time and a boatload of energy to rethink the whole shebang and release something above and beyond expectations.

are the metal spikes silver?..or anodized/painted to match the color of the delrin?...i cant tell if they just seem colored cuz they reflect off the delrin from the pics
