You can either have lucid dreams or you can't, it isn't like something someone just sort of says "well, s___ I'm gonna explore my dreams from now on".

Your title is kind of silly, unless you are hinting at using dmt or something like that.

Lucid dreams are neat though, I have them.
it is very learnable. Very, very few people are natural lucid dreamers. It is pretty easy to learn. just a tiny bit of patience...
I agree with everything you just wrote, I think the key word there was waking. You have to sleep Ed, every day  Smiley Oh and the pizza is great its 24/7 and the waitress is to die for.

You should try it.

right on. but delectable though they are, the pizzas (and the waitresses) i dream about never leave my hunger sated when i wake.

also, i think there's a difference between seeking to be aware even as you sleep and trying to be aware of yourself dreaming. i rather enjoy ceding control for awhile.
i think the only problem with it is that many people who invest in the practice are seeking answers THERE, even as they ignore what transpires in front of them when they go about their day. your no less a part of everything while you're awake than you are when you dream. the waking world is no less an illusion than the world as we dream. in that sense, the practice may be beneficial, but only if you have a hard time swallowing unreality during the daytime.

don't worry mike, i sleep very well.  Smiley

haha, its not like lucid dreamers are ignoring reality. its just plain fun, nothing more. also the average person has 7-10 dreams every night so having a lucid dream once every week or so is not going to ruin your sleep. I think you would be surprised on how common the practice is too...

http://www.dreamviews.com/index.php check this site out. it explains the basics on how to get started. I've yoyoed while in lucid dreams before. pretty fun stuff. I would much rather spend my lucids doing stuff I can't do in real life though.

in my experience, most people are ignoring reality in general.
i didn't mean to suggest i have something against lucid dreamers. i'm just content not to practice it.

I would much rather spend my lucids doing stuff I can't do in real life though.

i think i would like to spend one sitting still... or making a sandwich. i'm not trying to be contrary, but the idea of just doing things that i can't do in the real world isn't intriguing to me. "one real world is enough."

I've had two or three. They were short lived and on accident. I actually think I had one last night.

First one I ever had was I was in the Great Hall from Harry Potter (:crazy2:) and well, I picked up this egg and then took it to this table that was just "there" and set it on the table. The egg opens and in it is the 7th Harry Potter book. At the time of the dream, that book hadn't come out yet, so I was like, wait I'm dreaming. I think I got a little excited, because I had just started walking down the street before I woke up Sad

The one I had last night was that I was yo-yo-ing with my Wasabi and it just had the perfect slack, perfect humidity, perfect temperature, it was just perfect for yoyoing Smiley

I love them, and always read up on them during the summer for some weird reason.

Lucid dreaming sounds extremely intriguing. I do not think I have ever had one, though I do remember 'knowing' my presence in a dream state. I was just telling myself to wake up.

I think I will read about it, and perhaps try it... I love dreams, I love good dreams, and I still remember dreams from 8 years ago.

This topic also make me think of prophecies. Have any of you had a prophecy? I believe that I have, but I'm not 100% if the knowledge of the existence and happening came before or after the dream.

Also, just last night, my dreams were a tiny bit hallucinogenic (gah, I hope I said that right) because I was/am sick. I've had some really weird bad dreams, almost like a hallucination because of a bad fever...

So anyways, in my dream, I woke up from an amazing dream that became a nightmare (really unfortunate event happened), and I woke up... but I was still in a dream. Perhaps I had a dream within a dream.

Man I love this stuff.

Those are called false awakenings and they are fairly common http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/False_awakening
You should check out a movie called Waking Life. It's based on a guy who keeps having false awakenings, then eventually realizes he's dreaming and goes lucid. There are quite a few cool monologues throughout the movie and its really great if you're into lucid dreaming, philosophy, or deep thinking in general. I highly recommend it.  Afro

Ah, thank you Smiley I've had them before too, I believe.

Awesome! I will try to check out that movie, thanks!

So yesterday I did a bunch of reading, and last night I attempted to try to find my personal dream signals, dream recalling, and even realizing that I'm in a dream state.

I remember about 2 vague dreams... but the biggest of all. In one of my dreams, I'm pretty sure there was a point when I realized I was dreaming. But right after that, my heart started racing and I woke up immediately.

Dude that is awosome that you became lucid after only trying for a couple of days!!! it took me months of keeping a dream journal until I came lucid for the first time...
I suggest you keep a dream journal (keeping one will greatly increase your chance of becoming lucid)
Also, whenever you become lucid try to stay as calm as possible for a minute or so to stabilize the dream. If you try anything to exciting (flying, ect.) right when you become lucid, you'll probably wake up. Check this book out. One of the best books I have ever read. http://www.amazon.com/Exploring-World-Dreaming-Stephen-Laberge/dp/034537410X

Heh... thanks! I just kinda went... "wait, I'm dreaming" then I instantly woke up with my heart pounding. Thanks for the tips!

I'm going to find it hard to keep a journal, I hate writing, my hand writing is horrid, especially at 4 am.

Nothing too much happened last night though. I remember maybe 4 dreams, or parts of dreams (if there was a transition, I don't remember it). One of the dreams was epic! The music that Hank Freeman used in his FS "The Ecstasy of Gold" was playing perfectly, while I was doing intense stuff, haha. I love that song.

But I also had 2 (I think) badish dreams... one of them was a little vivid. It was really weird, but there was snow all around me, and my fingers were touching icy phone booth buttons, and I talked to my dad after I wasted about 8 quarters and attempted my phone number maybe 10 times because for some reason it wouldn't work!

So, what happens if you kill your dreamself in a lucid dream?

Assuming that all things experienced in lucid dreams are based from experiences in reality, what do you think your mind would fabricate as after death?

Or do you think such an act would be incompatible in a lucid dream, and end the dream itself?

And also, do you experience lucid dreams in first person?

It's weird, but for me, when I've been semi-lucid, it was always in a third-person-esque vision O.o

I've never had control over my dreams. I'll have to try this.

Btw, does anyone here have sleepstarts? Like when yor starting to dream something awesome, and the something like a SEMI comes in and hits you then you jerk awake?
