You know, I've just about had it.
« on: September 07, 2008, 05:39:01 PM »

I can't stand my grandmother half the time anymore. I've been wanting a 401sd for a long time, and I finally got the money for one. She bought me a bike, which I  appreciated greatly. Then I asked to buy the 401sd with my OWN MONEY. She starts screaming at me and tells me if I need the yo-yo so bad, she'll take back the bike and buy the yo-yo. I already had stated I would buy it with MY OWN MONEY though, but she doesn't believe me. She's insisting screaming like a banshee that I should spend the money on something I need. I've been needing another hoody for a long time. Now I've found this nice Enjoi hoody, and she won't let me buy that either. I'm starting to get REALLY pissed off.

Sorry, I just needed to rant.

i'm sure it seems like a big deal.
but i'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that someday (sooner than you might realize), you'll appreciate your grandmother quite a lot, while your 401sd won't seem so important. may you recognize that sooner rather than later.

stuff... is just stuff.

pro question - do you live with your grandma?

your grandma has a point. she just bought you a nice bike and you should use it. you have other yo-yo's, and you should use them. even though you have had your eye on a 401sd for a while, you still should respect her decision. she is an elder.

however, she has no right to tell you what you can do or what you should like. try to present more arguments for the yo-yo.

...however, she has no right to tell you what you can do...

Not necessarily true. In fact, quite probably false.

That whole concept should be obliterated.

Kids and teenagers are expected to do absolutely everything their parents(or grandparents in this case) want, and honestly that's just retarded.
Times have changed, and a lot of the time their ideas are outdated and impractical in today's world.

I'm not saying you shouldn't respect your parents. Just... don't let them control your life to the point where you can't be who you really are and pursue things that you want to.

Hey, Fasano, why don't you say what you think is wrong with my statement instead of posting that overused internet fad?

Have you considered that you may have hurt her feelings?  She bought you a bike, so try showing her a little appreciation for it before you go asking for anything else.  Buying ithe yoyo with your own money doesn't take the sting away from grandma's hurt feelings about the bike.  She just probably wanted to see the bike put a smile on your face, instead of a dissapointed, entitled, "I didn't get what I wanted." face.  I may be assuming too much...but maybe not.

As I know that many adults or those ahead of us in time are sometimes controlling,

RESPECT is something you should always keep. When you look back at things, you'll see someone you care about is more important that you wanted.

Alex, you should respect her decision.
Give it some time. Time really seems to change things. She might even change her decision.
Its not like the 401sds will disappear or anything, and if they do we'll probably ask Ben to make one just for you.

Volcom and Vans are very good choices...

I never said I didn't appreciate her, I just don't quite feel her reasonings at times.

That's because when she was your age, spending $120 on a yoyo was completely unheard of.
