yup, some will provide better results than others but it's all a matter of trying, testing and having fun while doing both. Smiley

Sweet, I'm definitely going to have to try my hand at making my own string then.  I hate running out of string and having to wait for a week or two to get new stuff (or pay the outrageous price of 6 bucks for a 5 pack of duncan strings in the local stores)

I do not have access to a video camera currently.
It has always been my hope to make a vid showing this process.
Hopefully someday I can.

Thank you so much for this information.

I was worried cause I was down to my last string (one that was on a cheapo promotional yoyo that I got when I first started yoyoing, and it sucked), and I was worrying that it wouldn't last long enough for my pack of 100 highlights to come in.

I just finished making my first yoyo string!  So now, if I run out, I've proven I can make my own!

I'm thinking, with how easy this was, I may just have to start making a string or two a night, just to experiment and build up a stockpile for myself Cheesy

how many rotations do you need to make perfect string.
i use a similiar method.you have a vise with a nail in it some duct tape
behind it and a drill with a hook.  you wrap thread around it 2,3,4or 5 times to make
type 4(flea string), type 6, type8 and type 10.you put it under the duct tape.
after that you twist. this is the part that  tension is importan. make it too tight and
get tight string and viseversa.then fold it over with something in the middle and wray it on the nail
and also under the duct tape. then it will twist on itself. then you cut and make the loop and your done.

here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNM45pfOVQ0 (External Embedding Disabled)

so how many rotations will you need to make the perfect tension?
sorry if this is too long idiot2

I usually twist it till it shrinks about two feet; that gives me the perfect tension.

Just experiment.

thanks Afro i found that you can do as tight as you want and then loosen it accordingly for perfect tension.

Hey Gsimian.

To shorten your explanation in making strings.

Is it goes like this?

Set a hook, then thread it a couple of times in to the hook of the drill (Instead of a drill bit, a hook is attached)

Then drill it up, then after it, remove the string into the other hook, then let the yoyo twist it itself.

Is it correct?

then my question.

1.) Is their a specific tension?

2.) when you drill the strings, Do you make it so tight?, I mean because of the tightness, IT will kink? Is it okay, and is it proper for making strings?
