3A yos?
« on: August 06, 2006, 02:33:29 AM » |

I stumbled onto a 3A site and got kinda fascinated by it but it was then that i realised that the only tug responsive yoyos i knew of was the duncans. Tried as i might, i could not think of a tug responsive non-duncan that is not high maintenence (well, cuz i burn a set of friction stickers in 3 days).
so i was just wondering if you fellas have a recommendation on yoyos that one could use for 3A. I guess you can divide them into two categories, mainly tug responsive and unresponsive. So all ya 3A players out there, any suggestions? Detailed answers are more than welcome and i'll be glad to place your answers in the yoyo guide ya? =D
thanks

Well, it's usually best to just use what you like to use for 1A, because you're the most used to that and it keeps your hands happy. Also, anything that you already have a pair of works pretty well, but my recommendations would be the Freehand Zero and the Spinfaktor HG. I recommend FH2s to people who want to buy a new pair of yo-yos because they're cheap and responsive... hehe Zeroes are my current favorite overall, but I understand some people don't like taking the time to set them up. HGs are pretty great straight out of the box. I'd like to type more but I actually have to run... more later

all yo-yo's can be set to "tug response". as for 3a, i suck, but i like zeros, hg's, and speedmakers. never tried a zwei.

HG's are fairly responsive and good to play with out of the box.

hmm yeah i know my hg is my favourite yoyo now... but once i thin lubed it, i can rarely get it back with a tug. even if i could, the yoyo would not wind up properly... =( hmmm... i cant remember how the HG felt right out of the box... =(

I've also been using HGs for learning 3a recently. I play with my left (weaker) hand tug responsive and my right hand bind responsive. The left hand yo-yo is completely stock (apart from a shorter string) and will still return to the hand, even after one of my sloppy tricks. This is after about 5 weeks of fairly regular use, too. If it does get broken in and stop responding, I will probably add some thick lube to increase response. The right hand, I play with a cleaned bearing with a couple of drops of thin lube and two grey YYJ shims. Zeroes are my current favorite overall, but I understand some people don't like taking the time to set them up. I thought that you used Dark Magics. Any particular reasons for swapping, or just a bit of Duncan Love? Nick.
