It was a lot of factors, but they were all mostly made for the better.

Yoyoing is still the same. Just done differently. People may have changed the way they and others look at yoyoing, but yoyoing, is still yoyoing.

I'd say Tom Kuhn.

And I don't think that anybody else has ever gotten close to what Tom has done to yo-yos.

We have all changed  yoyoing from what it was 10 - 18 years ago.  You can't really say one person changed yoyoing, we all have had a hand in making it what it is today.

hubstacks arent a huge step in yoyoing, 99% of people i see with hubstack yoyos dont even use the hubstacks anyway, lol.

i would say its a combination of everyones input, from  kuhn to brown to that kid down the street you taught how to do a trapeze last week.

i would say everyone...everyone kept pushing it and pushing it until it got where it is today.

ya tom kuhn put bearing in yoyos but why? because everyone was pushing yoyos and he found an answer to push them more.

so i think it is the community!  Afro

i would say its a combination of everyones input, from  kuhn to brown to that kid down the street you taught how to do a trapeze last week.

that's the only answer.
if you've ever yo-yoed, especially if you've helped to disseminate it to others, you've had a hand in its evolution.

i think the question really worth asking is "what ARE YOU doing to change yo-yoing... or to keep it the pure and wonderful thing that it is?"

I have no desire to justify or explain any of the people/companies on this list. Just know that all of them have changed yo-yoing.

Alan Amaral & Mike Caffrey / Yomega
Arne Dixon, Michael Lee, &  / SuperYo
Jon Gates
Takumi Nagase
Alex Garcia
Jennifer Baybrook
John Higby
Tom Van Dan Elzen / Playmaxx
Hans Van Dan Elzen & Ben McPhee / Yo-Yo Factory
John Huber
Dale Bell / YoYo Jam
Hironori Mii
Takahikoo Hasegawa
Rafael Matsunaga
Tom Kuhn / TK Yo-Yos
Gil Losi Sr. / Team Losi
Alan Nagao / HPK Marketing
Alan Batangan
Jason Lee
Gabe Lonzano
Paul Escolar
The Longoria Brothers
Glasseye
SAGE
Joe Mitchell
The Malowney / Winzenz Families
Mark Sitton
Kate Miller
Julius Sfhdjkalghfaruitoyuraioghjfkldnsjkfdsjklhasdkjhlzi
Shinji Seito
Patrick Mitchell
John Ando
Felix Avellana
Mark McBride
Spencer Berry
Dave Bazan
Matt Ritter
Dale Oliver
Dennis McBride
Hiroyuki Suzuki
Jack & Priscilla Finn & Andrew Boulay / A2Z
Brainstorms Arizona
Dave Hall / Dave's
Rich Rains / ES
SoCoOL Bob
Greg Cohen
Andrew Arvesen

There are more. But all of these people have left an indelible print on yo-yoing as we know it today, whether anyone realizes it or not. That's just off the top of my head.

This wasn't meant to be an inclusive list. It's meant to open everyone's eyes to the fact that there are a lot of people who are responsible for what you have, what you do, and what you take for granted. And some of them, you've never heard of.
