spyy spyder [hero edition]
« on: July 09, 2008, 07:49:00 AM »

Well well well, i got my spyder 3 days ago in the mail, and its my first actual working yo yo. I had a crappy yo-tech for 2 weeks and i could only pull like a split bottom mount at best, so i benn yoing for 2 1/2 weeks and i now know from the 3 days with my spyder barrell rolls buddhas revenge split the atom mach 5 and im half way through white buddha [ gaah frustrating].

Now onto the yo yo, well the spyder in my begginers eyes is so awesome, i just using slick 6's which came to my attention that this yo yo eats strings in a heartbeat before breaking it in, it broke 5 strings in 3 hours of play on 50/50 strings? Anyway its cool now and it was always nice and unresponsive, i had to learn to bind which was hard for me at first but im getting the hang of it. on a really good throw i get about 33 secs sleep time but that could be altered with 1; a much better technique, and 2; better strings. btw i just ordered 10 G-strings which i've heard are the bomb so since im in aussie il probs get them in like 2 weeks.

So one more flaw i found in this is on the occasional ad throw the spyder tends to want to curve/spin of a little but im sure il get better soon. As i said before had no probs with the response it just didn't come up even when going nice and fast so its great for me. It doesn't really snag that much either, as opose to my yo-tech wich slept for about 7 secs if i was lucky! and snaged on a trapeze!

Anyway i don't know what else i can say, this small yo yo is great, i think it came with an ezo kk bearing with just regular thick difs which i have no idea what they do....
i need tips/pointers on what to do, some technique, what tricks to learn next, string i should actually use, should i mod the difs? andthing like that would be awesome, i don't kow how to really rate a yo yo since this is my first serious one so id say     10/10 for sure. i will definitely be going spyy again if i get a new yoyo, probly an addict or maybe a new model if there is one in the near future.

Keep spinning! and tell me your thoughts!

From the sounds of it, you bought your Spyder too soon. More experienced players can sleep a Spyder for more than 5 minutes.

Probably for over 7 minutes knowing spyy yo-yos.

I think its a great yo-yo. Their yo-yos come packed with lube, so keep practicing responsive!

Well, he is yoyoing less than a month, so his spin time is not very high, regardless of yoyo.
That will get better with time, and from what you wrote you are advancing
much faster than i did. I'd recommend YYN Highlights, they are pretty smooth,
easy to see(it helps a bit) and are not expensive.
Also, a very good site for tutorials is expetvillage.com, which i assume you know(based on the list of tricks you learned).

Ahh, thanks guys but to be honest telling me you can all sleep longer than me doesn't help much. Possibly if you showed me a video or maybe described how to throw properly that would be great. Yer i've heard of expert village, but i prefer the selct videos by [theorganizerteaches] on youtube he has some really good vids on some tricks, like kamikazie and candy rain [of which i can't do though lol] anyway tips and other stuf would be much appreciated!

Thanks heaps Smiley

Well if you can, maybe switch the dif pads for kentaros or a kentaro and a dif. And if you don't like the ezo, get a kk, but ezos are very good when broken in.

lol, i dont know how to get dif pads out or where to get kentaros? whatever they are, im liking the unresponsiveness if thats what you mean, i rather keep it unresponsive, and my bearings fine, i just need tips on how to actually physically throw a fast sleeper, after watching some vids ive discovered the spinning of the string to keep it alligned lol, and i can get about a minute, will the string length help?

Maybe you already saw it, but it really helped me when i started.
the string length affects the speed of the yoyo, but if your not tall
enough you will have a hard time keeping it from hitting the floor.

i love my spyder.  it's my fav. yo-yo i own.  i recommend you keep the stock bearing in there.  it's very good once you get it broken in.  it took me about a week to fully break in but i probably throw harder than you do.  keep at it, you'll get it down.  i also use the stock dual thick dif set-up and it works really well for me with alchemy string once the pads are broken in.  you bought a really good yo-yo.  it doesn't matter if you're new or not.  have fun with it.

btw.  you guys are kinda jerks.  this kid's here for help and you turn his thread into a wang wagging contest.

i'm not sure.  at least a few minutes i guess.  i'm not really the type of player to throw as hard as i can all the time or pay a lot of attention to sleep times.  i just throw and do some tricks.

honestly my spyder isn't the longest sleeping yo-yo that i have.  that would be my gold 888 (i only have like 4 metal yo-yos).  i prefer to play my spyder though because i like the finish better, the bearing is smoother and the response system feels nicer to me when i bind.  i could probably get some longer sleep times out of my spyder if i cleaned the bearing, but if i did that it probably wouldn't feel as smooth or be as silent.  i'd rather have it broken in from stock, even if it means a little sacrificed sleep time.

also, the string doesn't really have anything to do with sleep time.  the reason i mentioned it before is because your string does effect how your yo-yo binds.  you may have a response pad set-up in your yo-yo that you really like, but then you might change to a different kind of string and the bind response won't feel the same any more.

about the finish- I hated the finish when I first got mine.  It was like a chalkboard... but then after a few days it smoothed out- probably something to do with the oils in my hands.  now I LOVE it.

My Spyder can't outsleep my 888 either, but it sleeps long enough.

Im sorry if I will be coming off the wrong way, but....

Why get a Spyder as your first yoyo other than a crap yo?  Angry

It makes no sense to me why a beginner would get one. I dont care if your rich, get yoyos to suit your experience. And getting Gstring because your string rips? On tricks you will be doing you should be using cheap cotton for god's sake, you dont need string bent on slacks, you need string bent on learning, and a yoyo to match.

*sigh*

Sorry, I had to say that. It just doesn't make sense.
