I have questions about these, actually. Are they fixed axle, or do they have a bearing? What sort of spin time is average? What about size and width?

Nobody can agree precisely what yoyoing is, yet everybody wants to argue about it and take it way too seriously to the point that people get tired of talking or even thinking about it. Thus, yoyoing is art.

No Jives are fixed axle. I threw one one time and got like, around forty seconds out of it.

ok... the tom kuhn no jive 3-in-1 yo-yo was the world's first take-apart yo-yo. patented in 1976, it was also the first yo-yo that could be modified to fit together in 3 different ways (imperial, butterfly, and pagoda). the renegade, which helped to transform modern play, is basically a plastic no-jive with a bearing. in my opinion (shared by many), it's the best wood axle production yo-yo ever made. i'd go on to say that no one's ever made a better yo-yo, period. it maintained a growing level of popularity throughout the 80's and 90's, when it became subject to a host of special limited edition runs (colors, clubs, laser engravings, etc). it has been associated with the zen-like "state of yo" as proposed by kuhn (along with tom smothers and neil fesers's "the book of yo"). although i don't get into much of that, i do agree that throwing wood is a kind of "zen art", which demands that you submit to the fact that wood is inherently less predictable and more volatile than injected molded plastic or machined aluminum. you have to "blend" with a wood yo-yo to throw it well. essentially, it's as simple as take-apart yo-yo's get. 2 wooden halves, 2 hex nuts, a steel axle, and an immobile wooden axle sleeve that lasts nearly forever. it is incredibly smooth, and yet like all wooden yo-yo's has a bit of a hum that you can pretty well lose yourself in. i sometimes hear it in my head before falling asleep. if you're ready to let it, playing a no jive can change your entire outlook on yo-yoing. they're not making any new ones. you can buy them from tkyoyos.com in the mandala/flying camel versions. most are put off by the price, but brad is gradually selling them all off and has no need to reduce the price (which i think is reasonable - i'd rather have a camel than a hitman). you can find them for cheaper at other online stores selling off old stock, as well as on ebay occasionally for under 20. btw, here's my main player. and my vids: i apologize for hijacking the thread, but you can't ask a question about a no jive without me rambling.

nope. i don't like the starburstish feel of a mandala in butterfly shape. plus mandalas have a softer profile and loop PERFECTLY in imperial. my main guy is just a totally normal clear coated no jive (it says no jive when it's in imperial).

That's what I'm most interested in. Is tkyoyos.com the only place that sells them new? Or can I find them in some other online store? (Not too interested in the Flying Camel or Mandala version)

What about the other Tom Kuhn woods? Do any have bearings? Which would you say is the best Tom Kuhn (with a bearing?)
