How to make an avatar

Folks,

I looked all over the help files. Currently, the file I'm trying to use as an avatar is a 40k jpeg, but it keeps telling me that the file is either too large or not an avatar. Can you tell me how small it has to be, or what the characteristics for an avatar are?

If you go to tinypic.com to upload a picture, for resizing, choose avatar size. Then you'll get a image location to copy and paste.

or, u can just open the file in mirosoft picture manager or photoshop and resize it
