I don't know about you, but I'm starting to get excited about this Saturday's contest. A few quick reminders:
1. If you are coming, please help me out by registering (
http://yoyoevents.org/VAstates/index.html). It takes virtually no time and makes my life much easier by making sure we have enough food.
2. If you are freestyling, I recommend that you do the following:
A. Read the lyrics to your song. I hate to do it, but I will DQ you if the song is not appropriate, and there are simply no excuses for having an inappropriate song. I have no problem with language in songs, but the venue is simply too important for us to lose. Trust me, there are plenty of good songs out there that are appropriate for use in a children's museum, so please don't try to see how close to the line you can get.
B. If you use an IPOD: create a playlist that you drop just the freestyling song in. This will make the volunteers' job easier and keep you from accidentally picking the wrong version of a song. (The ability to create a single-song playlist is one of the reasons there is no excuse for having an inappropriate song pop up.)
C. If you use a CD: either burn a CD with just your freestyling track on it or write the track number on a slip of paper that also has your name on it, and tape that to the CD case/envelope.
3. I need to borrow 3-4 iPods/personal media players for the trick ladder. Specifically, to make sure that all of the judges have the same model in mind for how to do a given trick, I will have all of the ladder tricks on my iPod and need a few more to be lent to the cause. Please email me (
vastateyoyo@gmail.com) to let me know if you can prepare the videos from the National Yo Yo Contest website.
Look forward to seeing everyone on Saturday!
