Has anyone ever stripped the threads on an all metal yo-yo?
« on: January 06, 2008, 08:29:01 PM »

The One Drop Yo-Yo touts that if you strip the yo-yo you can easily fix it by replacing the hex nut.  This sounds like a great idea but I wonder how many people have accidentally stripped one of their all metal yo-yos?

I have never stripped a metal yoyo (888, 08-888, Bapezilla, Business, Bone Chip, Tank, Cold Fusion, Mondial, Coral Snake, Viper) nor any of my YYJ yo-yos.

If you have stripped a metal yo-yo please post which yo-yo. Also if you were able to fix the yo-yo please tell us how.

The very first run Phi. It had large threads, not fine ones like the 888.

I have seen a pyro stripped once but I assume its the fault of the player and not the yo-yo, as it's not common

step 1: remove bearing
step 2: forget it's not in there (somehow...)
step 3: screw it back together

Well being that the axle holes are made from the yoyo body which is aluminum, its basically just taking out that unnecessary risk.

I destroyed the axle on my MG, the axle on my first Oxy 4 corrupted itself somehow.

But the only yo-yo I've actually torn the threads out of was my first Metal Zero. It served as quite a good basketball at MD States.

well, i didnt exactly strip the yoyo halves threads, mostly the axel, but my dad tried screwing back together after the axel was essentially flat and that did quite a job on the inside threads of the yoyo...

Aluminum (threads) are softer than steel (axle).

Last yo-yo we have recieved a return or inquiry about how to fix a stripped yo-yo since the original G5, which was the main reason we switched to our current setup, 1,000s of yo-yos ago.... We did have a design issue with original 401ks, as people have noted but the 401sd is much more reliable.

I love it how the Oxy 4 'corrupted itself ' Grin

i stripped the threads in the side of an envy 64 from over tightening.  it wasn't cool.

any yo-yo with a non-aluminum bearing seat/axle or some kind of nut set-up like the project is a nice feature.  one less thing you have to worry about.  aluminum is a very soft metal even after it's been anodized.

Yes my first run metal zero died he real death right after I had it powder coated.  So I bought a helicoil kit and fixed it not square so talk about wobble.  But I have a helicoil kit for 4 mm shafts and I will trade it for something Yo ish(like a Higby F.H.Z. or something.) Afro
