As of today I have tried every CLYW yoyo, my thoughts and rankings
« on: February 06, 2012, 05:29:27 PM »

Today I received my campfire in the mail from kbjork and thus I have tried every Caribou lodge yoyo. Call me crazy but here are my personal rankings.

-Sasquatch
-Avalanche
-Gnarwhal
-Wooly Marmot
-Peak
-Campfire
-Chief
-Bassalope
-(Galactic Goose)
-Bear vs. Man
-Canvas

I have yet to try to wooly markmont, sadly.

I'm just not a fan of the canvas (or chief), sorry guys.

And now for my thoughts:

Caribou Lodge > All competitors

First of all with the exception of the Canvas, I am a fan of all of these yoyos.
Ever since I began yoyoing my goal was to get one caribou lodge yoyo. Well, I invested $70 and about 100 trades later, I had tried all of them as well as most other high end brands (with the exception of Yoyorecreation and Yoyojoker). My first CLYW was a 28s avalanche, it was favorite from day one, but being the businessman I am, sold it to get money for the chief release (One look at the chief's shape and I knew it wasn't for me, but for the sake of trading, I got it anyway). Alas, I had lost my favorite yoyo, it took me a matter of like 2 days to get another CLYW and I took a liking to the wooly marmot as well. Fast forward two months and I have tried all their yoyos (besides the wooly markmont).

I don't really know what else to say, I'm not gonna ramble on about everything I love about Caribou Lodge yoyos, but I will say the colors and shapes are most appealing, and the spin times and stability are just incredible. Nor will I start saying things like "I fell in love with this yoyo" or "This company won my heart" etc. etc. Because I think we all know things like that are ridiculous...

I have not and will not ever 'fall in love' with a yoyo, but yes, when it comes to Caribou Lodge yoyos, I am a fan.

Wow. Very interesting the the Campfire would outperform the Chief in your opinion. I'm not saying that you're wrong by any means, it's just not something that I would have ever expected to see. I'm trying to remember my personal ranking in order of favoritism.... I think it was something like:

Sasquatch
Avalanche
Peak
Bassalope
Bear vs. Man
Gnarwhal
Wooly Marmot
Campfire

...and then I sold all my CLYWs before the Canvas and Chief came out lol.

Have you played both the new and old machine peak? They play quite differently.

Yeah I wasn't a huge fan of the chief or canvas, I do really like the campfire, I didn't exactly know where to put it on the list though because it is so different than all the others. And have you tried the canvas and chief? Where do they rank on your list?

Bassalope is grossly underrated in my opinion. Super fun throw that just gets shoved under the radar, which is a shame because it's so boss.

Oh, and in response to the other question, I haven't gotten to try neither the Canvas nor the Chief so I can't comment on either. The Chief does look like something that would be right up my alley though. I just haven't come across a colorway that I like enough yet to detract from my current collecting efforts. I guess once I'm satisfied with my YYR collection, then my ILYY collection, I can maybe try and get ahold of a Chief.

i find it pretty intersting as to where you placed the chief also. just curious but have you tried both 1st and 2nd runs? the difference is quite noticable. i prefer one over the other by far..

but since this has turned into a personal opinions thread, ive played all except the goose/ w. markmont/ bassalope/1st run peak..

for me it goes like this:
1st run chief
ava
sas
gnar
peak
campfire
all others..

not a fan of the marmot / bvm / or canvas... just not my play preference. all clyw is good clyw though.
Edit: need to try dat bassalope.

Gnarwhal
Canvas
BvM
Sasquatch
Avalanche
Peak
Bassalope
Campfire
Wooly Marmot
Wooly Markmont (It felt really off to me. Not solid, not floaty, just this weird awkward medium...)
1st run Chief (Same reason as markmont)

Limbo: Galactic goose
The goose was a great yoyo, but the rims were stupidly annoying. Not sure how much I like it.

I find the small bearing and thin response a pain. I got too lazyto take care of my bassalope, so I sold it.

Which bassalope are you guys talking about? The large or small bearing? I personally liked the large bearing much more than the small.

Here's my list

1st Run Peak
2nd Run Peak (depending on colourway)
Avalanche
Canvas
Gnarwhal
Wooly Marmot
LB Bassalope
Bear vs. Man
Campfire
SB Bassalope
(Galactic goose)

Ah yes, I neglected to mention that my experience with the Bassalope was purely of the large bearing variety. I always did want to try the small bearing version though. If I could somehow get ahold of a Bionicalope I'd be psyched because that was a sick colorway.

Here's my ranking from most enjoyable to least.  Not to say I dislike any of the CLYWs at all, just my personal preference.

Marmot is 4th on my list, I don't know why they're all so low. I have no complaints, good spin times and great on grinds.

id go out on a limb and say its in contrast to stability.
not to say the marmot isnt a beast on its own merit.
